That is what I thought too - if you are going out on a film that Vantage one would be it. A curates egg of a show - I could only give it an 8 although there were some golden moments this week. There were some really odd bits too.

Love the supercharger whine! :)

Man, those ads were funny! However, they'd probably be banned from being aired on TV because of boring people. It seems harder than you think, Jeremy... "How hard can it be?"

Cool Wall was back! I got the magazine for July and got my own little Cool Wall on the fridge. :)
I wonder if Hammond ever got down? Lol.

And what a BEAUTIFUL end to the show, and indeed the series. What beautiful cinematography. Ten stars out of ten for that. I couldn't get over how spectacular it was... and I still can't now.

Nine out of ten from me. :)

right on with the review.

10/10 for this episode. pure defining Top Gear magic, and not just for the final 5 minutes of the show.
The Bathurst and the Maloo, in both cases i looked at both of them and just thought 'no, no way.' and within a few seconds i was loving both cars. I can't put my finger on what i liked the most about the Bathurst but it seemed like every little thing about that car was just made of awesome-ness. Also i howled with laughter at Richard showing the pie and the key.
The News, great stuff with them showing that new Ferrari. i swear when they showed the back of that car i had my very own crisis. I thought it was a nice touch when they were talking about Massa and Hammond, especially wishing him well. A James May porn film... guess he wouldn't be the only one saying "oh cock!"
The TV Ad, i could not stop laughing throughout this segment, especially at James and Jezza's take on that advert with it ending in the bloke blowing his brains out... that near enough had me passing out. Jeremy adding the explosions, James' jingle, the bikini clad pallbearer, the bloke with his arm cut off... everything about that segment was just pure hysterics.
Jay Leno, what can i say, great to see him on board and this series of SIARPC segments have been overall better than previous years.
The Cool Wall, well this was just great stuff and while Richard getting his own back was scripted to the nth degree, it was still amazingly funny.
Overall this series seems vastly improved and i don't know if its becuase of the current world conditions or the bbc cost cutting but they seemed to have really gotten down to do a great run of shows. In fact this episode felt a lot like the older episodes currently running on Dave.

Now finally, those last 5 minutes. As the series was nearing its end i had the horrible impression that something was going on. Normally at this point Jezza would be going "on that bombshell... goodnight!" but instead they were carrying on with the Aston. I thought with the amount of time left before 9, conspiracy theories were abound. The music, that scenery, Jeremy's reflective and somber comments, a horrible thought was beginning to form in my head. "what if Top Gear is ending?" in all likelyhood they would probably end it as if they were doing a normal episode and then end it with a literal bombshell of a ending. I was dreading that Clarkson was about to say "thank you for watching us, goodbye" if he had said anything like that i would probably have lost it. Even the end credits, ending without the 'Jessica' theme and a skyline... it still gives me goosebumps.

It's Bathurst with a short "a" NOT Baathurst!! It's an Aussie car, say it like we do!
//END\\
Anyway loved the Bathurst/Maloo, (you can take the girl outta Australia but ya can't stop her lovin a Ute...) and i'm a Ford gal back home! Pie + key = classic! (wonder if it's a demotivator yet ;) )
News was less detailed but funny "Aspergers makes your wee smell funny"

The ad thing was ok, it's nice to see Jezza n James together again for a challengey thing, they play each other up really well. Jezzabelle, would prob agree Jeremy looks quite sweet in glasses ;)
Jay Leno was ok, but i dunno, was expecting a bit more, they've had less interesting guests on for longer, could have done less Scirrocco more Jay. The Cool Wall was ok, but again not enough time for all the cars this season.

Oh. My. God. That Aston Martin film. :jawdrop:
Am i the only one who wanted to cry? Stupid really, but they knew how to tug the heartstrings with that beautiful film and music.
And they've got us all terrified that they've secretly ended TG and that all the refs to November are a bluff! Although it was a dark end, i can't think of an engine note i like better for an "end tune" than an Aston Martin!
Oh hurry up November, it's worth ever-shortening days and increasing cold just to have the boys back.

It seems the "real" TG fans acctually didn't like the series and did not like the episode, which i find quite strange as i thought the episode and series overall was very good!

Well done TG.

The ads were so good I would have taken nearly all of them onboard if I were Volkswagen

Great episode, but that ending was truly strange...

I wanted to cry too! You're not the only one. ;)

i think it was also because during that segment there was photos of various other cars and super cars and when he said "i have this horrible feeling that what i'm driving is an ending" well that still gives me a lump in the throat.

Scary really, how the name of the song played with the Aston Martin is called "An Ending"... end of the series or the end of the show altogether?

I hope it isn't what I think it is... :/

Sorry... I'm probably sounding like an idiot.

Oh dear. I didn't enjoy this one AT ALL. Infact, it was on a par with the dreaded Iceland Doom programme from way back.

I enjoyed Richard's Bathurst bit, but everything else, frankly, was crap.
The advert bit went on for way too long which ruined any slight amusement which was in it. The news was too short. The cool wall lacked it's usual comedy. The Jay Leno bit should have been MUCH longer - what a wasted opportunity. The man is a proper Petrol Head, not there selling anything. I would have preferred no Scirocco bit, and all that time used for Leno. As for the Aston bit, the scenary was pretty and the engine noise fabulous. That's all I can say about it. The Aston itself was like an Armani suit with HiTec trainers - the bonnet work is horrid, but it wasn't a car review in any way. I just didn't understand why it was there unless it was to signify an end. I hope they do much better next series, because if this is the way things are going I'd rather they gave it a quiet funeral. And that's from one of the biggest Top Gear fans you'll ever meet.
It was honestly, for me, like they are bored of it all and finding it hard work to actually enjoy what they are doing.

PS The Brough superior is a bike not a car.
Just had a quick scan of posts - I thought I was the only one who didnt really like tonights show.

Top Gear is still a brilliant show and its still very good but just didnt find the tv ad bit that good - some funny moments but compared to other challenges wasnt that good. Its always going to be hard topping last weeks classic car challenge which was great!

I liked the Bathhurst/Maloo bit. Challenge bit like I said was not that good. Aston Martin bit - although it looks very nice was a bit pointless. Jay Leno was a good guest but not long enough

I think this could make people realise that TG will not be here for ever and need to appreciate it more!

Clarkson stated they would be back in November during the show in the News section

unfortunately there are some people (myself included here) are not quite ready to let Top Gear go yet.

this was an amazing episode, and a worthy season-ending! i'm not afraid it will be the last TG episode eer, the show's way too popular for that, but it did sort of get under my skin. i felt truly touched by the sheer brilliance of the Aston and the beauty of the landscape and music.
I was surprised at how serious these advertisement guys were, they couldn't crack a smile :) it was fucking hilarious, especially clarkson crowing for the pigeon and the bikini babe :)
The Pikey (pie+key) joke was amazing. i loved it!
didn't quite catch where he put the Range Rover now though, what with Hammond being on that thing, but i bet it was cool
can't wait for the next season!!

Well, I am a massive Top Gear fan, I always look forward to watching it.
I just HAD to sign up on these forums after that ending.

Really intense, quite saddening, it really did feel like an end, it really put the nail on the head about the state of affairs in our country :(

Come back Top Gear!!

and how intense was the 'crisis' that Bathurst was haing?? you could spot one for miles to come! it's ludicrous but i love it :) and it's as fast as a bloody m5! pikey brilliance i'd say :)

I never really gave much thought to people who go on about this is the end of TG but for some reason i have felt all season that we would gear season 14 and that would be the end of the regaler series. maybe we would get one off specials.
I can not put my finger on why i feel like this though.
