^ NAS with 5 disks?

I think its a 250gb x 3 setup, Newegg uses the same hdd picture for most of seagate's drive.

I keep wanting to get one of those (just bought a 500GB 4-5 months ago and it's already full), but I'm outta physical space in my case. :(

Maybe I need to put my old PC's guts into a case and use that as a storage dump...

Or you can get an external cage that can take 2 or 3 HDDs. Seen quite a few of those around, not too expensive either.

750 Gb sounds plenty. I have a 300 GB drive (which is tiny by today's standards) and I've only managed to fill it halfway over 1,5 years.

How do you guys fill up 500 GBs in 5 months? Do you really need that much porn?

Why not burn to DVD? Certainly cheaper than buying a new HDD ever so often

I have 1.4 terabytes and only a hundred or two free. :p

top gear, bsg, heroes, futurama, firefly, qi, whose line

it ads up

Yeah. I have a ton of whole TV show packs (Magnum PI, etc.) and those are 40 gigs each plus a little other stuff *cough*.

A 750GB HD is $120 on Newegg. That's 16 cents a gig.
A spool of 50 DVD-R's is $13. That's 6 cents a gig.

So 750GB of DVD-R's is $45. Definitely cheaper (about 40% of the cost).

However, you gotta take time into account. It takes 5-10 minutes to burn each DVD plus a few minutes to figure out what you wanna burn. Then when you need it again, you gotta dig through a couple hundred discs (I have around 300 sitting behind me). It's a major pain in the ass.

I'd gladly pay twice the cost for ease of use.

Although I am gonna go through and prune a lotta shit. No sense in buying more space when I can get more outta what I have now.

Considering that the average person spends 2-4 hours on the PC, that's a lot of burns in a day, and since you don't get full seasons everyday, burning the daily amount can't be THAT much...

Also, organised TV library FTW (messed up a bit cos SOME people don;t know how to put back after watching :< ):

I think we need to consider the average person on FG, not just the average person of the world. That number will skyrocket. :p

I for instance spend almost my entire day behind the pc, either work or play.

Same here and I would rather not spend it all managing my burner. :p

Funny you guys are discussing hard drive space, since I just went from 200gb IDEs to a 750gb SATA drive. I have no use for my old IDE drives since my mobo only has one parallel header being used by my burner.

Up until now I used to burn most of my shows to DVDs, other than what I keep watching over and over again (like all of TG, around 100gigs). For now I'll probably save them on the HDD until I need to start burning them again. Blank media is kinda expensive here due to some copyright levy they charge.

But as you guys mention, saving on discs is a bit of a pain. You gotta dig through so much garbage, and I never remember what I have on disc. Plus, I hate the fact that when you're watching from a disc you can hear your DVD drive seeking if you skip or rewind. Argh.

That's why i got a 500 (465 <_<) gb my book!

Mine is constantly full, though... Need a new starter for the golf, otherwise I'd have bought another one...

Got a freebie!! :D

1) Is that a crack on the front?
2) Why are Subaru giving away iPods, or did you put that sticker on it?

thats the last time the back is that spotless

Yep, I scratched the apple logo on my iPhone the first day, since its a bit elevated on one side... Additionally it has now some marks on the display (bottom left, no biggie), so scratch free my ass...
Well, I bought for usage and not for showing off, so big whoop...

I hate burning DVD's, but maybe that's because i'm quite unorganised in that matter. I'll easily loose the DVD's so I would go for more storage too...NAS ftw!

Me too. I used to back up everything on DVD.....then I had so many spindles of burnt DVDs (lazily labeled), so it became extremely tedious to find anything I was looking for.
