Food! [The thread that started this section]

^I need the potato because we've been having rice, mostly 2 meals a day, for the past 15 years I was here. Asian staple food FTL!

Mousaka is a little too troublesome, plus I've never seen it before! :p

EDIT: Yeah, maybe the shepard's pie... thanks!

Mousaka is basically thinly sliced potatoes, minced meat, arranged in layers, then covered with a cream/egg sauce and oven baked till golden brown.

BASICALLY.

I'd have to ask my mum about other spices and stuff.

Mousaka also has eggplant I think, and it's pretty vile

It's like a shitty version of lasagne

My mum makes it without eggplant, so it's better.

And no, it's not a version of lasagne. Lasagne has tomato sauce, this doesn't, lasagne has pasta, this has potatoes, lasagne has cheese, this doesn't, lasagne has bechamel sauce, this doesn't.

The only thing the two dishes have similar is the arrangement in layers.

You fail again.

No, you fail, because Lasagne literally means "layered". So Mousaka is considered a version of lasagne. There's tons of different types of lasagne, we just know the one with tomato sauce and Besciamella. There are a few Italian lasagne recipes very similar to Mousaka.

But since all italian culture and cuisine evolved from greek, lasagne is a version o mousaka. :p

We do, yeah. :p Like i said, better mousaka = potato, not eggplant. The eggplant variant is from the ancient times, we just improved it. :p

Ahh, food. I think I'll have both mousaka AND shepard's pie tomorrow for dinner!

Shephers Pie,

Lancashire Hotpot for an alternative

This is a posh version you can simplify quite a lot. Key bits are the onions, (I like to put carrots in), lamb and spuds.

Beshcemel sauce in Lasagna? I'm 100% certain that your classic lasagna contains 0 beshcemel sauce.

My mum learned the recipe from her aunt who's practically Italian.

Wiki says Bechamel Sauce is very common in Lasagne too.
