My aunt drives a bright orange Twingo. But she's young and spanish and funky.

Get the RX8 when you buy the new car, it'll allow you to have fun without killing you in the process. The other cars....Well um... let me put it this way

300BHP+Unexperienced 16 y.o Driver = Crash

My first car, after I turn 16 in October, will more than likely be either an EVO X, RX-8, 350z, STI, or 135i.
Surprisingly, I won't give you shit about your moneyed life, and I usually do to someone of your age.
But I will tell you this: you don't know shit about driving, boy. Get a car that reflects that, for your own sake and so your mother can sleep at night, knowing her son won't get pulled out a mangled sports car. I have been to too many funerals of kids your age who had cars way too fast for their experience.

For your first car, going by the above quote, I would get the 135i. It looks damn good, itwon't look silly and out of date in five years, and insurance will be much more reasonable.

1. The reason I can get a car like this is because I've worked my ass off in school, through my chores, and through my actions to show I won't be stupid and irresponsible because my might aunt might have money, but she won't hesitate for a second to snatch everything that she has given me and take it away for as long as she wants or send me back to where I use to live with my mom.

2. I have realized that getting an EVO or and Sti will be pointless since I don't have the experience to dart in and out of traffic, so my next car will probably be the 135i.

The last thing I think I should say is that the situation I'm in is very different than what most of you think. I'm not a spoiled rich kid who gets everything they ask for so I think I should explain. When I lived with my mom I wasn't a good kid at all I skipped I smoked pot I was a moron. My aunt being a kind person took me in 3 months ago because she realized my life was going to hell. Since then I brought my grades up, I haven't touched any drugs or alcohol, and for the first time in my life I'm a straight A student. Also when yall say I won't learn the value of a dollar that's so not true because not to long ago I has eating Taco Bell dollar menu every night and didn't have much. Even today when my aunt takes me out to these nice restaurants I always try to order the cheapest thing on the menu. I think this will end any flame wars.

Pull your head out of your ass. Just because you managed to get out of all the bad influences in your life, doesn't mean you deserve a very expensive car, or that you are even mature enough to handle them. Besides, you won't even appreciate these cars until you drive an absolute piece of crap for a year or so.

No one, and I repeat no one, should be given an expensive new car as a first car. Everyone should drive a piece of crap for at least 5,000km to understand the essence of driving.

And on the subject of my Aunty's car, I bought my first car off my Aunty for AU$1000

Yay....rich kids.....
So his aunt has a higher end car and he is considering some nice cars for himself. Doesn't automatically make him one of those 'rich kids' you see on the news after they've totaled their parents car. You could at least give him a chance so you can decipher whether he is one those kids...

I'm gonna have to side with the newbie and recommend you guys lay off. His attitude isn't anywhere near the "spoiled rich kid" title some of you have given him.

However bman49 - you could have been a bit more subtle with telling us some of the cars your considering as your first ;)

have to admit I loled

thanks SL that's what I've been trying to say I know I'm not invincible and I know I'm not the stig so if I do get a car that's nice I'm not going to dart in and out of traffic of even drag on public roads. Also, different people with different incomes have different views on cars.

EDIT: If I was trying to "show off" I would be showing my cousin's car and saying it's mine.

And what a car! :p jk, got them mag wheels to fit yet?

Nah, gotta get some longer studs for it. Probably take a bit to get around to do it, just need some time where I can spend the whole day doing it. Although.. I just found out that the tyres are 10 profile smaller than they should be.. so I might need to get some second hand tyres..

No offense, but don't expect to be alive (or at least in fully working condition) in a year if you're getting any of those cars as your first. Most new drivers will hit stuff in any car, let alone a powerful RWD car.

Also, if your mom drives a 92 Carolla, how will you be paying for these rather expensive cars? Did the government give you a bonus for moving out of your mom's house?

Just get a FWD layout for your first car.

Bah, my first car was a RWD 1986 Lincoln Towncar, there are few things safer to drive/win in collisions with.

You don't need to explain yourself. I am sure anyone here would do likewise if a well todo relative offered them a nice car. I do think first cars should be beaters, but what else are you going to do when offered a nice first car. Be careful and don't act cocky.

This thread is full of haters.

My first car was a $950 MK1 Escort, but if I had been offered a WRX or RX-8 I wouldn't have said no, especially considering they hadn't been built then so I would have been the coolest guy on earth driving a car from the future.

Plan to crash at least once before you reach 25 (hell, the insurance companies do :) ), and buy a car that you won't feel bad about being totalled. Also... you don't just crash because you're driving fast or reckless - one crash I was in was caused by an asleep driver crossing the wrong side of the road (to my side, luckily I was on the kerb-side lane and buffered by 2 cars). So think carefully before you spend your Aunt's money.

It's hard not to be jealous when someone gets a car for free that you'll never afford... or your wife won't let you buy!

I was lucky to get in my first and only crash as I was 27 years old (completely innocent since the other car skidded onto my side of the road so the world's best driver in the world's best car couldn't have avoided that accident) but here we are allowed to drive at 18 so it's the same 9 years from getting the license and "planning to crash until x". ;)
I can tell you, even a head-on crash at moderate speed is very very bad so if you have enough money you should buy a small and not so powerful, but safe car and save the money for later when you have more experience so you can assess dangerous situations better and get around them.

Well, I think it's rather the attitude the originator of the thread exhibited in the first post - without any other explanation it comes over as if he was arrogant and wants to show off, but afterwards he explained it.

You guys are all being real assholes to a new member that hasnt done anything wrong.

If he gets a nice car, good for him. When he rices it out or dies in a horrible crash we can mock, but for now i say good for him that he gets a nice car.

I say get the 1-series, its a nice car and i dont think it will be too much power for a child-driver. Although none of those cars seem particularly fast to me. *pats 5.7L V8 lovingly*

Sorry about your reception, dont take any shit from these guys. ;)

300+ bhp is not too much power for a child driver?

I suggest the RX8 rather, the slowest car of the bunch. 135 will probably be the hardest car to drive and the trickest one to balance when things go wrong.

I think he is better off with 4WD cars.
