I don't know if such a thread already exists - I didn't find one. If it does, please merge it
I guess most of us like where we live and see our places in a special way. This thread is for you to show where you live, the beauty of it and - if you want - also the not so pretty sides of your home towns and its surrounding areas.
So I start with some pictures I took of my home town of Wilhelmshaven and vicinity in Northwest Germany.
View from the tower of the city hall in Eastern direction
View from the tower of the city hall in Northeastern direction
View from the tower of the city hall in Southern direction
The inner harbour, which is used for private yachting mainly but also is berth for visiting sailing ships that take part in show regattas
Lake Bant, former home to u-boats, now a recreational area with a beach, caf?s and private weekends houses
Kaiser-Wilhelm bridge, once the biggest turning bridge in Europe, connects the inner city to the recreational areas, museums, aquarium and exhibitions of South Beach with its popular beach promenade
Kaiser-Wilhelm bridge, opened up to let a ship go through. The bridge is soon to be completely restored
Lake Zwischenahner Meer, about 50 km south of Wilhelmshaven, is a popular place for boating and belongs to a well-known health resort
The city hall of Wilhelmshaven, built 1927-29. The top of the 50 m high tower also functions as a water tower and is still used for that purpose
The inner harbour from the opposite direction
The small harbour of R?stersiel, a former independent village which was consumed by the growing city but could keep its village flair until today
A fishing cutter is leaving the small harbour of Bensersiel in the evening to do its fishing business
View from R?stersiel towards the small river Schaar, which belongs to a network of natural rivers and canals that cover the whole area and were used for transport and trading in former times
Seagull, caught in flight while following the ferry I was on
Wilhelmshaven is Germany's biggest oil reloading point and its only deep water seaport. Here's one of the several piers for unloading oil tankers
View from a vantage point at the Jade Bay towards the local power station
The beach of the small island of Langeoog off the North Sea coast
