We're not sure why General Motors has released two new teaser shots of the production Volt as well as ten images of engineers and designers working hard on its development, but we'll gladly take and show them to you while we find out. Though GM certainly isn't going to let the whole cat out of the bag this early, we are given a much better view of what we were shown in that ABC News video. We can now see just how high-tech the lighting appears to be on the Volt, with the blue glow of its headlamps upstaged by what appear to be some sort of LED foglamps. We can't tell you what their function is, except to say they look cool and give the impression that the Volt is a car from the future on sale now, or rather sometime in 2010, which is technically the future, but you get our drift. The other pic is not as revealing as the first and shows only a small portion of the Volt's rear end including its bow-tie emblem and model badge. The rest of the images show designers and engineers working on a full-scale clay model of the Volt as well as the car's high-tech drivetrain.

ABC News lifted the skirt even higher on the new Chevy Volt in a segment this weekend on Good Morning America. It's a scene eerily reminiscent to the Cadillac CTS skirt-lift by "Maximum" Bob Lutz. Given the timing of the Lutz-lift in relationship to the CTS unveil at the Detroit Auto Show, we're assuming what we've heard about the Volt skin reveal before the end of the year will probably still remain spot-on. But it wasn't just the front bumper ? ABC News also got a chance to take a look at the "iPod-esque" interior of the 2011 Chevy Volt rendered in clay.

i really hope GM does a massive Killing with this car! save there asses and bring the price of gas back down when no one wants it anymore. that way i can Finally put a big block in my impala!!! :D

When it was first launched, they said that it was going to be only $30,000. A few months later, they confirmed that it was going to be more like $40,000. At this rate, it's going to be like $60,000 by the time its launched!

evne if it is 35k when it comes out or more. its cheap to run. that alone is enough to make people buy an expensive car if itll cost you nearly nothing to get back and forth to where your going

I'm really looking forward to the Volt; I keep liking it more when I see little teasers.

However...

All the hype (like "THE CAR THAT COULD SAVE GM" on abc) keeps building and building. There's a huge amount of hype threatening to be bigger than the car itself.

I'm not saying this is a bad thing; but it means more pressure on GM for the car to be good. I hope it is, I really do. But paradoxically, the more hype there is, the harder it is for the car to live up to it...

Government subsidies will make it cheaper, just as they make the Prius and Insight cheaper. Also overtime they will find ways to make it for less either through volume or engineering.

It could be $100,000 and they would still sell a ton, there is a lot of interest for this type of car in wealthily yuppy circles.

I wonder if they are going to make a sports version of it...
I want them to call it Chevrolet High Volt :D

Ed sent us the above pic pilfered from the Transformers Live Action Blog and judging by the roofline, headlights and taillights, you're looking at the first picture of the production Chevy Volt. Not proof enough? The image on the right ? a zoomed-in crop of the larger image -- shows a metal plate emblazoned with four letters spelling out GM's savior. The Volt it is.

The car in the blue picture looks suspiciously like the a mix of the Euro Honda Civic and the FCX Clarity. All this GM savior crap is bullshit (Last time I checked, Lutz was proclaiming that the GMT900 trucks and the Lambda crossovers were going to save GM). A well made mass produced compact like the Cruze *could* give GM some profits, but this niche vehicle won't. Even at $30,000, I would rather buy you a Prius which will be out sooner and will carry a better nameplate than a Chevy. You don't see Toyota or Honda openly releasing pictures of the development of their hybrids (or any cars). Thats the thing that drives me mad whenever I hear the latest news from GM.

edit - To the guy who negative repped me, at least have the decency to leave your name and explain why.

Sorry double post.

This car is just a big disappointment waiting to happening. I really hope it does live up to the hype, but there is a good chance it won't and just become a big waste of R&D money.

So long as they don't rush it the point of being a failure, and burning people on the idea of a series hybrid like this then I think it will live up to the hype.

The only other thing that could let it down is if the battery technology reduces the original plan of 40 miles on a charge.

looks OKish, but the price is too high.

it is a nice way to have a car with a lightning bolt on it in the US though :p
Opel still looks nicer anyways :p

I don't really like opel (the sign), probably because it reminds me of FC Bayern.... not that they've had that for a while now....

...is GM management.

(Sorry I couldn't help it :D)
