Our spy photographers have caught the 2010 Ford Fusion wearing nothing but an ugly paint job, which means we get a crystal clear view at what Ford has in store for its midsize sedan. While things between the wheel wells appear to carryover, the front end is getting big a big makeover. The Fusion's new face features a larger three-bar chrome grille and a complete re-sculpting of its lower air intake. Gone are the two chrome bars in the lower grille and the fog lights that flanked them. In their place is a more traditional central lower air intake and new, larger foglamps the mimic the shape of the new headlights. The Fusion's new mug definitely appears more aggressive than the non-threatening visage worn by the current model, and we like it. The sedan's rear taillights are also being changed, though they're covered too well in these spy shots to see what those changes are.

The Fusion is a solid seller for Ford, which no doubt hopes the sedan will grow in popularity even more with a new front clip. We can't wait to see this thing badged as the Fusion GT with a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 under its new hood.

It seems like the Mercury Milan's lot in life is to follow the Ford Fusion, go wherever the Fusion goes and do whatever the Fusion does. Thus it's no surprise that when spy photographers happened upon prototypes of the 2010 Ford Fusion out being tested, the 2010 Mercury Milan was not far behind. Comparing the two sets of spy shots, the Milan appears to be making a bigger departure from its previous look than the Fusion. Its grille retains vertical slats, but the grille itself is much wider pushing the new headlights farther out towards the corners. Just like the Fusion, the Milan also gets a new front bumper, but its lower air intake and fog lamps have been incorporated into the same space rather than being separated into three distinct elements. In these spy shots we also get a clearer view of the Milan's new taillights, which, while retaining the same shape as those found on the current model, appear to have new covers with new elements inside.

Both are an improvement on their current models I think. Ford does seem to be trying to improve themselves with new models and redesigns.

I don't understand the enormous backup lights.

Otherwise, looks like a solid style, bland for my tastes though.

Look closely.....................those are part of the cammo. I was going to post something but I thought you would all see it.

I still think its a damnside more handsome than most of the midsize cars in the NA market. The cammoed shape of the new lights (on the Mercury version) don't really seem as handsome as the old design. The only thing that was ever wrong with the old car was perhaps it's size, the Altezza rear lights, the the chrome grille (though its better integrated than the Focus and the rest of the Ford range), and the bland looking interior.

I like the look of the new Fusion over the current car hands down. Much cleaner front end. Nothing groundbreaking, but it looks good.

I like the Fusion, but I'd hold out for the Mondeo based ones coming out in 2012 or so.

Won't be based on the Mondeo as much as using the Ford EUCD platform developed largely by Volvo.

...or even the new Taurus, coming next year.

I don't have anything against the Fusion...but nothing about it makes me "want" it. It's based on the Mazda 6, so it handles well, the interior is dull and cheap-ish, and the engines are kinda rough. *shrugs* It's generally critically well-received, with a "If Ford could only fix the engines and bump the interior, it would have placed much much higher in our comparison, if not the top spot" disclaimer.

meh, dont' think we'll see it here in Australia. Seems little point when we have the mondeo and falcon

Still has a disgusting three bar grill. Still don't care.

I guess me and Jetsetter are the only ones who noticed the taillights, :D

best camo ever

Why? Because most everyone else noticed that they are obviously stickers/decals/paint and didn't bother mentioning 'em?

The revised front end looks better, but I think the grille should be smaller.

That second model looks to have huge backup lights under the camo on the inside of the red lenses on the deck lid, that's what I was referring to, not the big white part under them.

Ford is planning a significant revision to its Fusion for the 2010 model year, and our spy photographers have the latest shots showing the updates. The model spotted today appears to be an up-level V6-powered Fusion.

Most notably, the headlights have been reshaped, and there is extensive chrome detailing, similar to the headlights of the new Taurus or Focus.

The grille has also changed, with the chrome ?bars? becoming thicker, and the overall height of the grille growing.

A heavily revised front bumper design reveals a more angular, trapezoidal low- center-grille, and bold new air-intakes are placed wide?above the front fog lamps.

Compared to a prototype spotted in December, the headlight units appear to be further refined, and much closer to production.

The Fusion was first introduced as a 2006 model, making the 2009 or 2010 model year an obvious time for an update. Past rumors suggested this revised car would be a 2009, but the latest reports suggest it might be a 2010. Stay tuned.

Following in Ford?s parade of updated mid-size sedans, spy photographers have now spied the 2010 Lincoln MKZ. A major freshening will grace the 2010 MKZ, including Lincoln?s new face: a split-wing grille with a large Lincoln emblem in the center. The MKZ will have new and unique sheet metal in the front and rear, while the side door panels remain the same as the current ones. Lincoln hopes the updates will help to separate the MKZ from its lower-priced Ford sibling.

The prototype has shed most of its camouflage and elements of an MKS-style split grille are now visible. The new face should give the rather anonymous MKZ greater presence, and should go a long way toward solidifying Lincoln?s new design theme.

The dramatic vertically-slatted split grille treatment ? which first wowed crowds on the MKR concept ? is reaching production on the MKS, and has been seen on early prototypes for the MKT crossover. It?s implementation on the MKZ can only help in creating a more focused direction for the Lincoln brand.

The slightly camouflaged rear hides redesigned tail-lamps, which will continue to stretch across the tail-end, just as they do on today?s MKZ.

Sources tell us that some interior modifications are also in the works, supported by the covered dash seen on earlier prototypes.

Powertrain changes remain unknown, but the latest prototype is likely powered by a 3.5L V6.

The timing of this MKZ facelift coincides with similar changes in
store for its Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan platform-mates, which are being readied for the 2010 model year.

The Lincoln version never should have existed in the first place. Those rear taillights are so hateful. Seems to me like Ford's idea of improving an existing car design is by making a bigger grille.
