The (quality) rap music thread

Get over it. You came in here trolling and now you can't let it go. Enjoy your non anon neg-rep.

Back on topic ladies!

Someone did the same to me and my post was relevant. I actually don't mind rap at all I'm just not that into it at this moment in time. When I was not too long ago I was really into anything by Fort Minor. Worth looking into if you ask me. Time to get another negative rep from some faceless idiot because I didn't post embedded youtube links :).

A lot of great stuff in the thread so far! Keep posting! :music:

And thanks for the boxing tunes, don't stop, need to fill up a cd

Sadly nowadays most hip hop is a laughing matter.

Are we talking rap or hip hop here, and where does one make the distinction? I know a few good Aussie hip hop groups such as the Hilltop Hoods (youtube Nosebleed Section, or The Sentinal, or Dumb Enough). Fairly old material but who said music had to be current to be good?

Can't think of a lot more than that as I dont have all that much hip hop in my library. I can only think of a couple of others off the top of my head; Funkoars (my friend likes them and they're playing at a local music event I'm organising), and Butterfingers (youtube Everytime).

How come noone has posted this yet?

Both terms were created after the artform came to life so it really doesn't matter. If you need a definition you can't go wrong with KRS One who said this: "Rap Is Something You Do, Hip Hop Is Something You Live".

Sure, there are a lot of really good non-mainstream acts around. I was talking about what's popular right now. Sorry, but that's too much for someone like me who grew up in the mid to early ninties.

These days I get most of my music from the bargain bin which is kind of sad really. At least it's saving me money I guess.

Some of the acts that put Atlanta on the map.

Outkast feat. Goodie Mob - Git Up Get Out

Cool Breeze - Cre-A-Tine

Goodie Mob & Cool Breeze - Dirty South (This song is why everyone started calling Southern USA the Dirty South)

Yep, Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris are/were big hits too. Jermaine's big thing was producing Kriss Kross in 1992(He later came back with more stuff as you know). But Kriss Kross was a one-hit wonder. Now, Ludacris came out in the late 90s after the Dungeon Family (Outkast, Goodie Mob, Cool Breeze, WitchDoctor etc) really put Atlanta out there in 1994 - 1996. Ludacris was still in college/university and was working as a locate DJ at the time. Ludacris and I went to the same university. I used to see him walking around on campus between classes.

Edit:
In the Coast 2 Coast Remix Jermaine mentions Freaknik and say he misses it. For those who don't know Freaknik truly was the shit. Basically imagine 150,000 students and other party-goers from various states hitting Atlanta all at the same time. It was CRAZY! You would be in traffic for hours but no one who was there for fun cared. We would get out of the car and walk to the cars that had women in them. Dudes would be on the the major freeways on bicycles and shit. It was crazy. Unfortunately, the Freaknik died because the police got to strict with their enforcement.

Edit Again:
For the people who like Gnarls Barkley. The Outkast song above is pretty much where Cee-Lo began his career.

I can't believe I forgot Eric B. and Rakim. Rakim is one of the best rappers ever IMO.

A slower song called "In the Ghetto" (one of my favorites)

And a high paced one called "Let the Rhythm Hit em"
