^ You use that other one don't you? Not anymore.

Hilarious ad that....

I personally think it's more promising than the American Top Gear.
Who knows.

VW, Castrol and Shannons are the show's sponsors for this series.

I just hope for Australia's sake that SBS Top Gear will be a success...
Because we all know that if it isn't, we're going to look like the biggest dickheads on the planet.

Atm, I don't like our chances

Things i liked:
- Mock the UK
- the overall show, not bad for a first timer.
- the shark cage car drawing

Things that could be improved:
- UK mocked only once, could be (alot) more.
- Name Clarkson, Hammond and May, mock them personal, building up tension for the inevitable clash between .uk .au .us(?) top gear hosts.
- less rap background music.
- The chemistry between the hosts need to grow.
- celeberties!, start off with the big international names, that other people (like me in in .nl) know, like errr.... Kyle Minogue! ( its the only .au celeb i know im afraid :( )

Things i missed:
- tour round the new circuit. I heard busstop and questionmark turns, but no idea of the overall track. could be done by the hosts driving their laps, then the score board was a bit filled and the celeb had someone to beat in the list.

SBS aren't exactly a big budget channel, they're unlikely to be pulling huge stars in (also Kylie Minogue lives in the UK)

With Drive at the bottom end of the scale, it was well above that, so that's something. There's certainly room for improvement and building of a unique identity. Could have been a bit better paced, but on the checklist of things to include to make it a Top Gear, there were more hits than misses.

QFT, and pretty much sums up my opinion of it...

good, not great, can only get better, but still rather enjoyable

but... Steve saying "what a grouse car" caused me to facepalm so hard it hurt :?

Uhm...

If you take the accent away, it's kinda watchable. But with the accent, I dont know... <_<

I can see it now:

Top Gear Australia: Accent Free Edition.

Here's hopes it turns out more like the US version of The Office that the US version of, uh, one of those British shows that was good in the UK but sucked when it came to the US...

*cough*Red Dwarf*cough*. And I think Whose Line Is It Anyway? probably would fit in there as well (well I think the Pommy version is funnier),

God that Volkswagen Jetta Ad got annoying, so did that Castrol ad

Well it could be worse. They could be doing a Castrol oil test using Volkswagen Jettas.

Seems to me there's a lot of folks in this thread that wouldn't have been satisfied, even if they'd turned on their televisions and stared into the face of god.

this one goes into the same box as the US version of The Office.

I like the us office! A fat, balding, unfunny closet homosexual cannot possibly hope to compete with a "daily show with jon stewart" alumni-us. :D

We in the US are still waiting for our rip. But any top gear is good top gear in my book, you just need to lower your standards.

If you compared TG Australia to the current season of Fifth Gear would you consider it better or worse?

I suspect the reason why they rushed through the tests was more so they quikly established a baseline instead of just waiting every episode.

Be interested to read your thoughts after you have watched it.

Part of the reason why most aussies have been so harsh is because of the quality of the presenters, one of the few things that aussie tv is good at is are shows where guys get together and goof around adlibbing some great lines.

The AFL and NRL footy shows are good examples of this, as are The Glasshouse, Rockwiz, The Panel, Good News Week, and going back further, Graham Kennedy's News Show, and even further back The Don Lane show.

Warren was the only one that seemed to come close to being capable of being comparable to any of the talent that appears in the shows above.

The other two presenters seemed very wooden in comparison and their humour was very wet in comparison to the typical dry laid back aussie sense of humour that most were expecting.

I honestly cant see this show succeeding if Charlie Cox remains the anchor of it, I think Steve Pizatti might be ok once he relaxes a bit more, but Charlie needs to go.

Just woke up to find my RSS grabbed it in the middle of the night without me actually wanting it, I'll have to give my review in a bit.

EDIT: Wow it's a lot better than I expected. It was good enough that I will leave my RSS to grab it every week.

It was a blatant copy of the UK version, but but I thought it was going to be a blatant rip off but it just didn't feel like a rip off. It felt like "Top Gear Australia", took the format and ran with it.

The hosts; The main guy was pretty good. Some will say he's a clarkson knock off but his image didn't really feel forced so I will give them the benefit and say that's really him. All said I liked him. The "young guy" seems the best for me so far. He's got what Top Gear UK is missing, a youth view on things. He's reasonably excited about the show which helps it flow and actually knows what he's doing. Now ... my biggest gripe, that 3rd guy. I don't like him at all. He's borderline annoying like Dawe was. Hopefully they can fix that. Unlike the "clarkson" I felt his character was "forced"

As far as the production goes, I felt they tried to fit too much in. IMO they should have ditched the maybach part and shortened that shark cage thing. That porn star looking guy didn't review the maybach so it was just a giant waste of time to lead into their board, and that shark cage thing was well... *yawn*.

Less porn star more lambo more porsche and a tour of the track because I have 0 idea what the track looks like. Hell a time video game style map while the 911 went around to get a basic idea.

6/10. Could be a 7 if it was layed out better and an 8 if I could actually stand the 3rd host.

I've only watched a few bits of it, but, holy crap, it's like the BBC put Top Gear in a photo copier and pressed the "Australia" button

I kind of thought they would be a bit more...original...

I've been thinking tho, now I've got TG UK, when TG UK's not on there's Fifth Gear, when Fifth Gear's not on there's TG AU and then when TG AU's not on there's TG USA! A whole lotta fun the whole year round? (someone please quote that and make me feel special!)

Done.

Now you get to feel special AND we all get to laugh at you for requesting you be quoted :D

its win-win
