Well, I've lost my boring company skoda octavia, so I had to buy something else so this seems as good a time as any to show my wrecks off.

Unfortunatly it looks like the rangie will have to go. It's in a bad way, and I don't have the time to fix it with the new defender arrival which needs some work along with the SJ. Thank god for the motorbike!

So what do you think?

haha, fair enough,

The skunk was made for a cheap banger race from the UK to Poland via a load of countries. The car had to be worth less than ?100, mine was donated by a friend who's wife crashed it.

so we started with this:

We bodged that back together as the car was still officially roadworthy. sledge hammer and cut and shut

Next the decoration:

basically it was covered in and out in fur and bloody hell it was hot! The tail moved up and down with an electric window motor from a volvo and inside we put a PA and water sprayer.

Amazingly the car made it to Poland and back without a problem covering 4000miles, traveled through France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Belgium. There were 100 cars taking part, it was great fun, made some good friends and raised ?1300 for charity.

some of the other cars

disco BMW:

punk car:

The Morris made it there and back too, the alps were a killer though

These nutters slept in this the whole time and drove it back, the whole time it had a major diesel leak! it did have a bar though :)

but we gave the skunk a good send off last weekend :)

That's a very nice collection you've got there, particularly the Land Rovers and the Suzuki. I'd love to have any one of those.

Oh, jesus fuck... Why didn't I think of that before? We could SO do this around here! Buy a banger for less than 100 euro and then have an endurance race on some field!

Can you tell me what kind of safety precautions you took apart from racing helmets? Was there an ambulance on stand by?

thanks Kajun, big fan of your disco too :)

Yeah it's great fun and you can sell the car's as scrap afterwards!

Safety.. erm well the rules were wear a helmet, put the seat belt on if it had one and no more than two people in the car.

That was about it, I personally drank quite a few beers in the morning that way your body is a bit more relaxed in the impacts. Seemed to work I had a bit of whiplash last year and was fine this year.

We disabled all the airbags as no one wanted to get hit with one :)
removed the lights so not so much glass would go in the field.

We had a few fire extinguishers and some grinders but as long as people use a bit of common sense no one should get too hurt.

we didn't have any rolls this year, but did last year and the guys were ok.

The track is a good shapes and top speed on grass is only about 50mph in an average car with normal tires. Being grass the grip is terrible until it gets bedded down after a few races.

I think that's about it, if you want some more info just ask.
