CrazyRussian540's post about Ford's cost cutting and the 1983 Chevy truck that my friend finally got to work last night got me thinking about American car companies. What I want to know is this: which of the big three do you like/dislike and why? Consider only American-market models since Ford, for example, is quite different in Europe and Australia, and not smaller companies, such as Saab, which is owned by GM - simply Chevrolet vs Chrysler vs Ford. Mercury, for example, is included in this, though.

I, personally, cant stand Ford. I hate every single SUV they make; I dont really like their trucks much; I think the GT500 is stupid (500hp is great but not when it has to move such a pig... it is outaccelerated by a base Corvette with 100hp less); Taurus and the like are garbage, imo. GT is, of course, impossible to hate, and I do quite like the 03-04 Cobras.

I like the direction in which Chrysler is headed - I like how many of their models look and the fact that their SRT division is sticking monster engines into pretty much everything. Also, they are back to RWD! What I don't like is the cheap-looking interiors and that most of the fast models are auto only. Also, I cant believe how big and heavy the new Challenger is. The old Challenger and Charger were sweet and the Roadrunner/SuperBee is my all-time favorite muscle car, hands down.

Chevy... I like Camaros/TransAms and I am really impressed with the C5 and C6 Corvettes. If I was ever getting an American pickup it would be a Chevy (probably the turbodiesel duramax). Their SUVs are my favorite of the Big Three (not saying I like SUVs, but if I had to pick...) - Escalade and Tahoe are sofas on wheels and great for road trips. Hooray to the CTS-V, btw.

Basically, if I was getting an American sports car, sports sedan, pickup truck, or SUV, I would go with GM. Therefore it wins for me.

I like the new Camaro, but I've never really had a love affair with the 'Vette. The GM cars I have driven have been incredibly underwhelming. Boaty, cheap interior, poor ergonomics, annoying dash boards, and seats that were probably pulled out of a torture room at Guantanamo.

Ford, on the other hand, has a nicely balanced lineup of cars that, if they don't look good, at least aren't terribly ugly. Ford has climbed in initial quality and reliability, I like the new designs and the interiors are more comfortable and better designed than anything I have seen from GM. Sure the Mustang is showing it's age compared to the Camaro, but that's going to be fixed soon. While I'm no fan of Ford's SUVs, I would not hesitate to buy an F-150 if I needed a truck. Hell, I would love to have one now as a second vehicle to haul people's bikes around.

I generally like Ford, even though I had real bad experiences with two of their cars (Escort and Tempo).

I prefer Chevy. They finally realized how to make some good cars. I'll admit that there are still some questionable cars in the lineup.

Toss-up between Ford and GM. Gotta give Ford the nod, though. Chrysler does nothing for me.

I love Ford, I have one in my driveway, and my parents have two. While mine is broken, it also sat for 6 years before it was given to me. I think styling, while not the best, isn't bad. I can't say much about reliability of new cars, as mine is old, and my parents' aren't much newer.

I don't like GM, personal opinion from personal experiences, so if you want to argue with me, don't, you're wasting your time. Malibu, Aveo, Silverado, Traverse, and Equinox are rediculously ugly, the rest are ok, if not good.

And Chrysler, they're just sort of, there. I like them, but I'd rather have something else. I mean, the Viper, Challenger, and Charger/300C are nice cars and I'd love to have them, but the Caliber, Sebring, and Avenger let the range down. I'm indifferent to the Nitro, it's too xB-like, but it's got a presence to it. I just found out it's rwd, I like it.

I loathe Chrysler. The cars are just hideously ugly and cheap polymer, odd coloured plastic interiors. Pieces of junk.

Why, all three brands are in Australia as well

Yeah but how are they "the big three"? In Australia you could argue GM = Holden, Ford, obviously Ford, but Chrysler aren't a brand that is common over here. If the poll was for Australia, it would perhaps be, Holden, Ford & Toyota seeing as tho Toyota sell the most cars here by a country mile. I would suggest Europe is the same in respects to Ford having a small place in the market, but companies like BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Lexus, VW all having bigger market share than GM or Chrysler.

Heres a little poll Automotive News did. They questioned their readers... If GM and Chrysler merge.. which cars would win.

And GM dominated it. Winner is in bold.
Chevy Cobalt vs. Dodge Caliber
Pontiac G6 vs. Dodge Avenger
Pontiac G8 vs. Dodge Charger
Chevy HHR vs. Chrysler PT Cruiser
Saturn VUE vs. Jeep Patriot
Chevy Traverse vs. Dodge Journey
Chevy Tahoe vs. Dodge Durango
Chevy Silverado vs. Dodge Ram
Chevy Colorado vs. Dodge Dakota
HUMMER H3 vs. Jeep Wrangler
Chevy Camaro vs. Dodge Challenger
Chevy Corvette vs. Dodge Viper

I don't think I'd be able to choose just one brand. Each one has something I like about it. Like I'd take a Ford GT over the Vette and the Viper. I'd rather have a Chevy Silverado over a Ram or a F-series. I'd rather have a Dodge Charger over a Ford Taurus or a Pontiac G8. A Ford Flex over a Dodge Journey or a Chevy Traverse.

So I can't choose just one.

I don't know the figures, but I'd be very surprised if BMW, Mercedes, Honda or Lexus outsell Opel & Vauxhall.

It used to be Ford for me because our first non crappy car was a Scorpio and GT is absolute sex. However, ever since the ZR-1 and since I learned more about SBC's I respect GM more.

Ill go with ford, mainly because of the Escort/Sierra/Focus rally cars and the Ford GT.

So I take it this poll is strictly limited to the American population of the board. How typical.

The OP is an American. If you don't like it, then take the sand out of your vagina and start your own thread.

GM Overall, but i'd rather have Chrysler design the 4 door "muscle cars" (atleast based off the 300C,Charger, and Magnum) and have ford design the sports and small cars.
