I'm going to study abroad this semester...

You look ready to kill someone with that rifle.. :coplight:
Y'all... I've been in Texas for over three weeks now, do you really think that I would hesitate to shoot a trespasser...? :p

Holy crap..... I just realized that I have only a little more than a month left here, and then it's back to the freezing cold, snowy Norway...

Anyway, things have been going really well with school and such. i think Texas Tech is quite lenient on grades and such, as I won't get a grade worse than a B this semester. I have experienced a lot over these months, and I would really like to go study abroad again if I get the chance. I have actually gained a weird interest for football over here (the American version) especially as our college team, Texas Tech Red Raiders are doing so well. (Suck it, UT Longhorns... :p) i have also watched a couple of hockey games. The football game last weekend was quite epic, beating the Longhorns 39 - 33. Sadly I didn't get to see the game live, as I was in Dallas for the NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway last weekend.

The most frequent activity though, has been partying. One might argue that there isn't much else to do in Lubbock, which is true, but it is an important part of the American college experience. The only warning sing that must be put up here, especially to foreigners coming in, is that everything alcohol is very cheap, getting completely shitfaced is very easy.

I have also been out camping in Palo Duro Canyon with my friends, that was a cool (hot) experience. Oh, and we also had a spot of rain, showing how badly the drain system sucks...

Stay away from Dallas. :p

Glad that you're having fun though, Texas is one of the quintessentially American places to visit that most foreigners think of when they look at America. Have you gotten a chance to visit other places, like say, the coasts? Far more different, but prohibitively expensive for broke-ass college kids like you and I.

I see you have discovered on Texas religions, football.

Well, I haven't been up by the coasts this time around. But we're going to Las Vegas next weekend, I bet that will fun... :p

Yes, the Texas Tech Red Raiders should have been called the Red Saints around here. It was also interesting to see how depressed the Longhorn fans got when they lost.

Another amazing thing was the reception Kyle Busch (Toyota) got from the crowd during the driver introductions; I have never heard such a powerful BOO, coming from an audience, ever... Also, they didn't like Juan Pablo Montoya very much either... :p

I have been studying broads my whole life....
I finally specialized in just one.
Now, I am just studying a broad.

Sorry.....hard week....

A couple of weekends ago I was in Las Vegas, vary much a crazy place. I mean, everything is allowed. If you want anything, you can get it in Las Vegas, then they'll tell you the price...!

Now, it started quite soft, a,direct flight from Lubbock, TX to Las Vegas. We flew Southwest, and the flight crew was actually quite entertaining. Coming there, I was very excited to see that it all was just like what I had seen in movies and on pictures; Very flashy, not really tasteful, but huge fun and very entertaining. Which is basically what las Vegas is about, entertainment, it's not a pure gambler's city. After having looked around a bit with my friends, we went to Paris, and got up in their mock Eiffel Tower. From there we got a good view of the fountains at Bellagio, very nice to watch. After getting back from there, we got changed, and went out to the Hard Rock to meet up with the rest of our friends. We originally planned to go out to LAX, but we got a Hummer Limousine (yes, extraordinarily tasteless, I know...) and our driver said that some of us wouldn't get in there wearing slacks and t-shirts. So he suggested that we went to Sapphire, where ha could get us in free, and we got a free drink card each (there was ten of us). Well, turned out it was a gentleman's club, but still, we had some fun there.

The next day we just walked around to see a lot of places. We went in to Caesars Palace and the Bellagio; Those are really amazing (and expensive). I bought a deck of cards from Caesars, used for playing poker in the casino, was only $3, a nice souvenir. Then, we went to New York, which looks like a piece of Manhattan and took the roller coaster they have, it's not that impressive, but still quite fun. Before going out that day, some of us took the bus over to The Stratosphere and got up in the tower there (highest building in Las Vegas) together with one of my friends we took all of the three thrill rides they have; the "Big Shot", "X-scream" and "Insanity", all of which were three different flavors of terrifying. Basically, the on the first one you get shot up in the sky to 1100-something feet (yes, nice view). The second one is like a sled that goes off the edge of the building, the the third one is like a normal carousel it's just that it's spinning off the side of the tower, giving you a nice scary view. After that, expectedly, we went out drinking. This time we were prepared, and went across the street from our Hotel (Imperial Palace) to Pure at Caesars. There was a long line, but we did the "Vegas thing" and gave one of the bouncers $100, which awarded us VIP-passes and some free-drink-coupons. After this, we went to get some after-party-bites and I went to bed (some spent too much money in the casino)

On the last day, most were too tired from the day before to do anything else but gambling. I went to The Mirage and got to see the white tigers at the Siegfried & Roy Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat. I think it was quite exciting to see these so close. After that I went across the street to the Venetian for a quick look before going home. All in all, I think Las Vegas is more of an entertainment city than anything else, an I'll strongly recommend everyone to go there...

Right now I'm in San Francisco for the holidays, having a good time here...

You guys had a nice win today.

Las Vegas is so beautiful. Its probably the only city that I can compare to Seattle. Even still, I love Seattle so much more, and I always will cos I'm a Washington gal :p

But it looks like you had a lot of fun in Vegas! I remember going there when I was younger. It was a blast. I definitely think everyone should go there at least once in their lifetime. ^_^

You guys had a nice win today.
Yes, although it was a homecoming and might have been an "emotional win" as the naysayers have titled all of our wins this season, It's not going to do us any good, because OSU Cowboys lost to Oklahoma... This is despite the fact we have scored 11-1 (7-1 in conference) this season.

I was there last weekend :p And I actually met Spectre, a really nice guy; he gave me a mini tour of DFW by night... :p

Darn. I can't have people thinking I'm a nice guy. Now I'll have to be even more abrasive on the forums!

:lmao:

Well, if it makes you feel better I still think you're an asshole. :tease:

Oh, and Jaguars suck! *pokes stick*

So, after experiencing Texas, do you now see, at least a little bit, why we think like we do?

I didn't need to spend four months in Texas to understand why you think like you do. I only had a very few surprise experiences. One of them was the road surface quality; Why would anyone have an SUV when the road is a as smooth as a pool table? Turned out the road wasn't. Other than that I was reasonably well educated on the US before coming over anyway. But, I think it was a really good experience, especially from a cultural point of view. After all, I'm not the most audible "euro snob" whenever cultural matters are discussed.

Most of the reason why I went though goes along my motto in life; Rather than living by the stereotypes, I'd like to experience it how it actually is...

I'll be posting some pictures later, from the last couple of weeks...

I still want a copy of your paper once you finish it - the one about Norwegian law? Your description of it sounded like it would make for interesting reading.

As for the SUV/road thing... If you hadn't discovered that before you came to Dallas, the quickie tour I took you on through Dallas' main roads should have convinced you of that quickly. :D {goes back under Jaguar, growling about discovering that he needs to replace the car's ball joints AGAIN}

Well, It's not due untill May 1st... So it's going to take a while... I can give you a summary of it, because translating a ~100 page document is a bit of a pain...

Yes, some of the road surfaces were bad, others were terrible... Especially those going of the ground and on to a bridge. I can imagine those killing some wheels/low profile tires quite easily. By the way, how quickly does those roads eat up the suspension bushes? We had to replace ours quite recently (for the second time in 4 1/2 years of ownership) because we started getting a knocking noise from underneath when going over pot holes and "wash boards".
