Yes, I attended this years Dickie's 500 NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway. Although I have been here for a couple of months now, I'm still ok. I haven't turned into a Redneck or a hick yet. The initial impressions of this wasn't too promising though, when I mentioned this trip to some of my classmates, I was quickly labeled "white trash", but after actually having been there that's not my experience at all. There were actually precious few white trash people there, that I could see or hear...

Anyway, on to the race. That Speedway is fucking gigantic, it has seats for more than 200000 spectators, and the attendance for the race was almost a 160000. There was a lot of fans stuff to buy, with Dale Ernhart Jr and Jimmie Johnson's stuff being the most popular. Kyle Busch was less popular, for obvious reasons, driving a Toyota. There were some pre-race shows; A marching band, a concert with Speedwagon, and a B-52 overflying.

The NASCARs are extremely loud, those V8s run on straight pipes and everything is shaking when they pass by. I was seated on row 8 from the catch fence, and I could feel the wind coming off the cars, I was also full of small pieces rubber that was worn off the tires and blown into the crowd by the car's aerodynamics. I had one of those Sprint Fanview things, so I could hear the commentators and the team radios, that was actually interesting; Montoya (#42 Dodge) is such a whinging douchbag though.

The race was won by Carl Edwards, driving the #99 Ford, the final laps were very exciting, as he was very close to running out of fuel. The last five laps he was on fumes and tires worn down to the canvas.

I have to say it was a nice experience, and I haven't taken any damage, well except for my hearing though... The rest of the pictures can be found here...

Now you are even more American than most Americans!

Kyle Busch was generally hated before he switched to a Toyota team. :p

:D

My uncle went to the Sharpie 500 in August. He said the loudest boos were reserved for Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson. Jeff Gordon, he said, was mixed. Dale Earnhardt Jr.? The place went batshit, of course.

The other bit I remember hearing him talk about was a guy behind him who had way too much booze and ranting about McDonald's. Oh, and the entire crowd going nuts when Carl Edwards spun Kyle Busch after the race.

I remember when I went to the NASCAR race out in Las Vegas a few years back with me dad. We ended up attending both the Busch Series (Nationwide) and the Nextel Cup (Sprint Cup) on Saturday and Sunday, and I couldn't properly hear anything for the rest of the damned week. Was quite an experiance, however, and I loved it, despite not really being a huge NASCAR fan.
