That graph (the Grauniad one, not the pirate one!) is almost offensive in its shittiness. Arbitrary selection of an 'average' so they can have big scary RED BARS? Vertical scale of -0.6 to 0.4 C? The timescale is justifiable as reliable records have only gone back that far, but it is still very alarmist. 
Of course ENSO has an effect, but there are also other things like solar cycles that are not well understood (we are entering a period of low solar activity) and this may have effects on our climate via solar wind and cosmic ray interaction.
Of course this is all moot because it is obviously teh pirates!! Everyone needs to drive Range Rovers to get rid of them!
