That El Camino....that's a seriously cool car that is ! This is a fun challenge, if I do say so myself (mainly because I get to drool over and check out the type of cars I love the most).

This is also reaaaally hard, so far I have 12 different cars to choose from !! I consider that El Camino the benchmark at this point, that's going to be very difficult to beat, that's why I want to think about my choice carefully.

That El Camino is pure porn, and exactly what I had in mind when I came up with this challenge. Great job bartboy !!

Edit: And here is my pick for this week. Boy this was hard - 13 choices, narrowed down to 7 and then from those 7 had 3 left. I had two main criteria which had to be met: must be V8 and must be black. And then I struck gold.

1971 Pontiac GTO - 14.950$

I really think this gives the El Camino a run for it's money. My god how much I want this car....I can already here Angus Young shredding that Gibson SG of his to the tune of Highway to Hell...

I keep looking at Eldorado convertibles... I'd get caught, but at least i'd get caught in style.

I'll keep looking for a Kowalski-esque car though.

Admittedly it isn't subtle.

p.s. I almost went with an V12 XJS cabrio in white... then I realised this wasn't the Thelma and Louise challenge.

Couldn't find a black one, but this will have to do.

I like the Charger... but to me for this challenge the GTO is unbeatable.

Well the '71 GTO had at most 300hp, "my" El Camino with its 7.4L V8 had 450hp and almost 500lb/ft of torque. The El Camino would probably get away from the cops quicker, if not then you could just stomp on the throttle to set up a smokescreen.

And the point wasn't to have the fastest car, the point was to have something which you would drive across USA in a Vanishing Point -esque way. Hence the name, "Vanishing Point -challenge" ;)

 at the fact how all the cars ended up being American Muscle. No one wants to drive down Rt.66 in a Euro econo-box?

But you're running from the cops right? Comparing badassness, I think the El Camino 454 beats the '71 GTO. But in terms of looks, you got me beat. The El Camino is just a boxy truck without the height.

Didn't notice this, will have to find something.

Edit: Got one, and I'm not pissing about here, went straight to eBay US.

Closest I could get to the Duel truck, I love it. :D

Don't think I have too much to worry about as far as price is concerned too. With the money I save I can have a couple of Dodge V8s fitted nose to tail in the rear.

No disagreement there, I also think the El Camino is....well, not badass, I think my car is more badass, but the El Camino does have something, I dunno, call it street cred. or what ever...it just looks as if it belongs on a dragstrip. That's a good thing.

And about a previous comment: driving down Route 66 in a BMW for example....just ain't right, so of course it has to be yank muscle :p There is just nothing like it...

It's snowing here right now, so how about convertibles? Let's say it was 75F/24C and it's sunny with a light breeze, it's Friday and you have the day off. What would you feel like putzing around in?

The coolest convertible you can find, not necessarily best to drive, coolest! That way everyone won't just go for a Miata :p.
