Vodafone has said it will waive the bill. A spokesman said: "Such bills are exceptionally rare and we have an investigation under way."

Surely there's a rescue fund available from the government or the BBC to assist those with financial problems?

Time to open TG Anonymous - church hall, 7.30pm every Tuesday (as long as it doesn't clash with any eps of TG)

Similiar thing happened to a guy in Florida. He decided to watch a football game while he was waiting to board a cruise ship. I think his bill was $38,000.

Can't say I'm really surprised. We use Vodafone 3G dongles here at work and we found that they are ?4/MB when you use them abroad. Let's say the TG episodes are from iPlayer and are 350MB...

I don't think they should waive it, they should've researched the cost and not let kids loose on the internet.

This is not the first time i have heard of this happening.
I can understand the mistake the first time it happened but you think by now people would know never to D/L when not in the UK and you think the phone company's would have some sort of warning message pop up before you D/L.
But at least they chose good shows.

It really can thrash your wallet. I today learned that Frankfurt Airport stores have the TG Magazine that you can't buy anywere else in Germany (or can we ?)

But it sets you back a hefty 12 Euros when the original is 3 funny L thingies. Talk about rip-off

yeah some Belgian dude had a similar problem
DLd some stuff in Spain on his cellphone on holiday and came home to find a bill for 68000? or something zany...

It's about ?7.50-8 here in ROI.

All of the UK mags are so much steeper here....getting cheaper, slowly though.

Sure airports are always a rip off.

Cup of coffee for ?4? Feck off!!!!!

Well at least it was only TG he was downloading, could've been porn.

Magazines are the best thing to buy at airports because they have a cover price. :D

talking about the price for the TG-Mag... anyone seen the cost for getting it delivered? UK it's like 35 pounds (that's those L thingies, i guess :O) and then you go for "the rest of europe" and it just jumps up to 89euros. that's just crazy -.- that is, btw, the one and only reason I don't get the TG-mag.

topic: I think it's ok for VF to waive the bill, apart from that being publicity of course, but then the prices for being abroad with your mobile, even if you only get called by people are outrageously high! I think the EU is investigating that at the time (or was recently if i recall correctly) and they say they're about to do some regulating on that. so hopefully no more bills above 10k euros then, right? =P but I also have to agree, that people SHOULD look at prices first, before doing stuff like that... stupidity needs punishment, really =/

Who doesn't have an unlimited data plan with their smartphone nowadays?
Wait, this was a data card? That's just stupid.

$5 a MEGABYTE? I'd never have even bought that service, even if it is wireless. That's just fucking stupid.

Wow 12 euros, guess you'll go broke over that...

i know its abroad but how the hell can they charge so goddamn much when normal land based internet is as cheap as water (in some places)

surely the costs incurred in sending the data about cant be any more than they would be in the uk? do they just do it because they can? i mean do they hire the satalites out by the second?

<useless gloat>
no, earning about 8K a month, i'm not - but I *do* think it's still a massive rip-off charging 3 times the price</useless gloat>

There are a lot of people *not* in the rather fortunate position to actually being paid a fair wage for their work and for those, who are not, 12 funny E thingies might make a difference.

Just to put it into perspective. I'm from the poorest part of east germany, and for the last 10 years i've been working for just about any known german company - VW, Audi, Commerzbank, BOSCH, Mediamarkt, Saturn, Karstadt, Siemens - as an external contractor - usually 400-500 miles from home, because that's where the work is. So before you take a jibe at people, think about what a price these folk are paying for it. I'm 35 years old now - not knowing where I'll be working next year, so *ever* having a family is not going to happen for me until I die - quite a price to pay, wouldn't you think?
Not having a girlfriend for 10 years and no chance to ever have kids - could you take that? So yes, I have got the money to buy meself a TG magazine every month - but the price of it is having a life worth living. so what you think is a nice little joke, for other people might be a tad more important. - hug that polar bear mate, since you're obviously better off than me
