No KERS for BMW in Barcelona
05 May 2009

The BMW Sauber Formula 1 team will race without KERS at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix. The system has been removed from both cars due to a comprehensive aerodynamic update according to the team.

"We will not be equipping either car with KERS in Barcelona," BMW team boss Mario Theissen confirmed. "It was a case of lining up with either a comprehensive aerodynamic update or KERS. The tuning time on Friday would be too short."

This doesn't mean though the team will not fit their cars with KERS later this season. "We may come back to KERS in Turkey," said Theissen.

Not sure if this is good or bad for BMW....

Just to add on too:

BMW won't run double diffuser in Spain

BMW Sauber boss Mario Theissen has admitted that the team's version of the controversial double-decker diffuser will not be ready in time for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.

The team has been working flat-out on the design, but has opted not to introduce it as part of its new aerodynamic package because it would not have been able to exploit its performance benefit.

Theissen insisted that no date has been set for the diffuser to be introduced, although it is understood that the Monaco Grand Prix is a possibility.

Despite this, the team will have an interim diffuser modification in Spain that is expected to improve its rear-end grip as part of its raft of modifications.

"The Barcelona-spec aero package has long been in development," said Theissen. "Therefore a double diffuser introduced at short notice wouldn't have brought us any benefit.

"There is no time limit set for when we will introduce the double diffuser in our car."

"We will have an substantial update in Barcelona, from the front to the rear wing, affecting also the sidepods, there will be improvements in every detail."

Theissen added that the team has had to re-evaluate its performance targets after claiming only one points finish in the opening four races of 2009.

This season, BMW's fourth as a full-blown constructor in F1, it had been expecting to fight for the championship.

"We moved our season targets that we set in winter aside," he said. "We cannot win races at the moment, therefore we shifted our targets.

"But we won't accept the current situation. We will speed up, we will have a look at where we will end up, but we certainly will not give up on this season."

Barcelona will be the first time that the team has introduced development parts this season, something that Theissen admitted may have been a mistake.

"The main reason we turned down the chance of updates during the first races was the testing restriction," said Theissen. "The other reason was the interference with the aero package on the car.

"This approach looks to be wrong at the moment, but let's wait and see after a couple more races.

"Our performance in Melbourne was fine and it even worked in Sepang, but then the other teams passed us. That was based on a strategy: we always planned not to bring updates in the fly-away races.

"Our first target for an update was always Barcelona and this will happen."

Kubica and Heidfeld are probably the most screwed over drivers now

Bernie doesn't want to have anything to do with MotoGP. When he became the promoter of the Turkish GP, he almost immediately canceled the deal for the MotoGP Turkish GP.

I think his point was: They had to push back the MotoGP race in Qatar 1 day because of rain... The lights made it impossible to race, the riders couldn't see anything..

How about just giving Kubby and Feldy the F1.08 to run, since everything is not there or not ready....

-_-

Really anything is better, but it's pathetic that this was supposedly "their" year..The boys from Munich/Hinwil fell asleep, and got left in the f*cking dust.

I knew it wont be quite their year when their front wing sides were like a mega ice cream scooper, with no other flaps whatsoever.

Just a side hunch, dont call me thrashing them when they are in trouble... :(

And on a side note, why do the air vortex things show up SO OMINOUSLY on the rear wings of the BMW ? The rest are like slight but damn at Malaysia the BM's show the "vortex" early in the rain, and very obviously.

Sounds like BMW is fucked for the Spanish GP

The worse BMW does, the better Force Apple Cinnamon Crisp will be doing.

I bet those guys are ecstatic that they're no longer the slowest team.

Super Aguri to return to F1?

06 May 2009

Aguri Suzuki has suggested a possible comeback to Formula One after hearing news of next year's budget cap being imposed by the FIA. The Japanese team, which entered the sport as an effective second Honda team in 2006, departed a year ago as a result of financial implications.

Entering F1 three years ago and running Japan's Takuma Sato, backing for the team eventually fell through after just four races in 2008, leaving both Sato and Anthony Davidson out of drives. Former boss Suzuki was not hiding his interest to make a comeback, however. "If it's physically possible I would certainly like to" he told Reuters.

The squad's best year came in 2007, with 10th and 11th on the grid for the season-opening Australian Grand Prix followed in May by eighth place and a point in the Spain. A dramatic Canadian race saw Takuma pass Fernando Alonso's McLaren in the final stages to seize sixth and claim three more points in the process, leaving the team ninth and ahead of Spyker in the final constructors' championship standings.

With governing body the FIA hoping to increase the Formula One line-up to 13 teams and 26 cars next year, Aguri's comments add one more name to the of potential new entries as he joins USGPE, Lola, iSport and Prodrive in the selection of 2010 candidates.

I don't think it will happen.

Mosley's son found dead

Wednesday, May 6th 2009, 13:25 GMT

FIA president Max Mosley's son Alexander has been found dead at his London home.

Alexander Mosley, who was a 39-year-old economist, was discovered by a relative at his home in Notting Hill yesterday afternoon. He has not yet been formally identified.

"We were called at 16.20pm on Tuesday to reports of a male found dead at a property in W11," said a statement from Scotland Yard.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene. The man is in his late thirties.

"We believe we know the identity of the deceased. The Coroner's office has been informed."

The FIA has expressed its sympathy for the Mosley family.

"The FIA extends sincere condolences to the Mosley family on the sad news of the death of Alexander Mosley," said a statement from motorsport's governing body.

"Our thoughts are with Alexander's family and friends, and we would request that the media respect the Mosley family's privacy at this difficult time."

I don't think any rude comments are necessary now.

My sympathies to the family, etc.

Wonder what the cause was. Thirty nine year olds dont just drop dead without a reason.

A drug overdose is the first suspicion in such a case, if the person didn't have a significant record of medical issues up to that point.

But then again, a stroke or a heart attack can also come out of nowhere.

That's just totally uncalled for. :( 39 and with so much ahead in his life. Economist, eh? Could it have something to do with the recession and all?

Condolences to the family.
It must be horrible for parents to outlive their children.
