Wow, awesome! :woot::love:

This was an odd find. Two 560 SEC Mercs in very nice condition, right next to each other.

I'm glad I managed to shoot at least something interesting during my walk. While I had my camera in the bag and the bag in the bottom part of the kids' stroller, I saw a black Viper and a gorgeous white 911 (997) GT2...and no pics

Greetings, lip

The Maybach is such an ugly thing, I'm waiting with bated breath for Mercedes to put the Maybach marque back to sleep.

It could had been a very special and great car if they didn't based it on the looks of the old Mercedes S-Class. That was one very bad design decision.

You think so? I thought the old S-Class was rather handsome when it was new, especially in AMG trim. The body doesn't work on the Maybach, which makes me wonder how they messed it up so.

The thing that annoys me most about the Maybachs is how cheap they look... the later sports models seem shiny enough, but the 'base' models look cheap to me. I mean the wheels on the one you posted above look like hubcaps at first glance, and that paint doesn't seem to have much luster.

I've only seen one Maybach in person so it might just be that it's not too photogenic, but next to a Rolls Phantom this thing looks like an effort from Buick or Mercury - a half-baked attempt at luxury.

Lancia Fulvia, one of the most beautiful cars ever! :)

In hopes of getting +rep aswell (You beat me to it:mad:) I can say that the Fulvia was considered one of the finest handling fwd cars of it's time, before the 205gti's & Integra's. It was remarkably succesful in rallying despite it's handicap of being fail wheel drive.

Oh yeah, it was beautiful aswell.

Where is that license plate from?

And I agree with Shawn that the Maybach looks too plain. My dad saw one and thought it was a $30,000 American family sedan, when I told him that the Maybach is worth more than $300,000. Then his expressions changed.........

Maybachs are only nice if you're sitting in the back while your driver handles the dirty work up front. Controlling a vehicle? That's so pedestrian. I don't get why anyone would want it in anything other than black though, seriously.

That's kind of the point. It's a car to be driven in not to drive, it looks plain for one reason.... so you don't stick out... think about it, it fooled your father.

I know of through some friends of mine, a couple who are worth hundreds of millions of pounds, who have about 4 or 5 houses/apartments dotted all over the world two here in NZ. They've just bought a Lexus 450 (I think that's the model) they had it on Top Gear doing parallel parking in the studio and crashed it into the cool wall. Down here that car is about $250,000NZ or $160,000US but it looks plain because they don't want to draw attention to the fact that they are well off.

Why are you comparing a Lexus LS with a Maybach? They are not even close in price, and I don't think many LS owners have drivers, not out here anyway.

The closest competitor to the Maybach is the Rolls Phantom, which looks anything but plain/boring/understated. Plus, even according to Maybach's own marketing, the shorter wheelbase model is not to be chauffered around in but driven, and it looks just like the 62.

I'm not saying some rich people don't value the ability to blend in with the masses, but I assume most who buy these things actually want to show off rather than blend in.

^ I agree, you don't buy a $300 000 car to "blend in".

It is much to plain looking.l

Why can't you? People who are very wealthy don't have to make everyone aware of it. Everyone notices you in a Phantom because most people have heard of rolls royce but not the case with Maybach. I mean it's not exactly discreet considering its the size of a small yacht but it's just understated compared to the rolls and I think some very wealthy individuals will prefer that.

I supose, but why not just buy a regular car then.

There are plenty of very comfortable cars for a lot less. Like an S class or a BMW 7 or something, where I am that would blend in quite nice for a lot cheaper, it's almost down right common.

And if you don't want to be common, then you shouldn't try to blend in.

^ I know a billionaire who drives a Merc S600 for work and a Lambo Murcielago for the weekends, and rides in a Bentley Arnage for special meetings/dinners. So I guess he doesn't want his employees to know that they're making him super rich by driving a Merc, but wants his business friends who are in the same social class to know that he is in the super-rich category by being chauffered in a Bentley.
