Looking for a good big aperture full frame Nikon zoom lens

Don't worry, it was rather pointless.

I wish I could understand it anyway. I am in the process of buying a DSLR and it would be a waste of money not learning about it.:)

honestly, it's nothing you need to know unless you have enough cash for expensive lenses because with a budget/consumer lens you don't gain much more than you would from just cropping the picture.

Back on topic, shall we get? Yoda I am not.

Other than the Sigma 100-300 f4 that BCS already mentioned (which would most likely be much better than a 70-200 with 1.4x tc) the only other option that I can see for under 2000? is the Nikkor 80-400, but it's a f4.5-5.6 so it doesn't exactly meet your big aperture requirement, but at the same time would probably be better than putting a 1.4x tc on a sigma 100-300 if you want that 400mm range because TCs wide open aren't great but are fine stopped down a step.

add a 0 after that price tag and get a sigma 200-500 f2.8 :)

did someone say sigma 200-500? RAAAAAWWWWWWRRR

^ I love the way that Sigma 200-500/2,8 makes a Canon 1D look like a lens cap... :p

I love the shopped biceps. :D

That thing is hysterically big

I love the shopped biceps.
Are you sure that's doctored? Something tells me that you'd need to be that ripped to hand-hold that thing

The question might be if there really is any truth to that picture? :p

But yeah, I've tried picking one of those up, and it is... heavy as hell. I'd call it impossible without a monopod, a (veeery) sturdy tripod might be even better.

and with that money you can get the sigma 2x extender for it too... or is it included when you buy it??

I believe it's specialized for and included with the lens. It turns the lens into a 400-1000/5.6

Just for laughs. Oly makes a 90-250/2.8, that EFL 180-500/2.8. With an EC-20, it's a 360-1000/5.6. :)

But it doesn't have SWD, and doesn't support the new AF-system introduced with the E-3 (Not without a firmware reflash, at least...) Also, it costs $5'500, a bit over budget. Btw; do you get an adapter that allows you to use Zuiko Digital lenses on Nikon bodies...?

And with a Sigma 120-300/2.8 on APS-C, it's EFL 180-450/2.8 or 360-900/5.6 with 2XTC, as close as makes little difference to the Oly - and it's half the price of the Olympus!

The 30-100/2, however, is a very cool lens.

Erik, I was just joking, there is no way to practically use a fourthirds lens on a Nikon body. Nikon lenses on fourthirds, on the other hand.

BCS: The 90-250 is probably sharper. It's also weather sealed. The Sigma 300/2.8 is a lot cheaper than the Nikon AF-S 300/2.8. But the siggy is not as good as the Nikkor.

35-100 is awsome, so is the 14-35/2.0, which actually is the lens I'm lusting most for these days.

:)

My head just broke.

And back on topic: Alok, looks like your best bet is the sigma :p

I thought initially that this was an easy decision :)
