Lens Flair

Rooster, nice symmetry there. I like it.

What about taking it from the other side? The colour may not be as intense or dramatic but at least then you would have better exposure on the foreground.
I think you just answered the question for yourself. Also, there were no clouds in the other half the sky... yawn.

I was also wondering if you did anything to the left hand side of this photo, it seems disproportionately darker even considering how low the sun was.
It was only about 20-25 minutes before sunset, so the sun was very low and having to pass through a lot of atmosphere and clouds. Only surfaces directly the more reflective surfaces picked up the light significantly.

I also added some vignetting to give the barn a stronger "glowing" appearance (but not a radioactive one ;)).

The only reason I ask is, imo it wasn't up to your usual (very good) standards. I don't know what the original looks like, perhaps it's just the processing I don't agree with. The vignette causes the sky to be both underexposed and overexposed, there's no cohesion.

Here are two from my brand new (to me) Olympus Zuiko 24/2.8 multicoated. It looks like it does a very impressive job, considering how little the thing is. You would laugh if you saw it mounted on a gripped 5D. For real, it's funny.
Those shots are great. Amazing!

But don't underestimate that old Zuiko 24, it is actually on par with a god damned Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L!

That old 24/2.8 is a legend.

If you want a cheap portrait lens, though, consider the Zuiko 100/2.8. I've got one of those, it's f*cking sharp from f/2.8 to f/8 on Fourthirds, and let's not forget that a f*cking 10mp fourthirds-sensor is actually f*cking dense. On a 5D, it would be a revelation. Great lens, and inexpensive. Bokeh is marvelous.

The original has a bit of foreground. I exposed and processed it to feel very "late" in the day.

Actually, that's because it was almost pointing into the sun, so the original is like that, too. The processing just exaggerates it a bit.

Rooster: Some test shots I did with the Zuiko 100/2.8

Center sharpness:

This lens is close to perfect. The Nikkor 105/2.5 AI-S is a legend. This Zuiko is just as good, and it's probably a tad cheaper. It's just not as popular.

;)

Thanks nomix. I knew what I was getting into with the Zuiko, and the 16:9 website is where I first read about it. I had to look pretty hard to find a MC version though, and it carried a premium. Glad I finally have it though.

I'm sure the Zuiko 100 is awesome as well...All of the Zuikos are damn good lenses.

I know, epp.

Rooster, all the Zuikos aren't good. The 50/1.8 silvernoses are poor as heck. Properly unsharp between f/1.8 and f/4.0. The Zuiko 28/2.0 is also quite good, excelling at f/4-5.6, and quite usable at f/2.8. Dreamy at f/2.0.

But I think we should continue this debate in random thoughts.. :p

Found this spider in my parents garden, a bit creepy, don't tell me I didn't warn you :p

Spiders are cool, not creepy. (And I am a biologyst, therefore my opinion is biased :p)

Found this on my car today. The strange thing is that it isn't the first time...

They must like red. Or RX7's.
C&C welcome.
