Top Gear to go HD!

Well, the Polar Special was aired in 1080p so we can hope they will air in 1080p as well. That said, I guess 720p rips will be available.

Great!
Now I just need to get a better computer
I have only 160 mb

Well I don't download episodes onto my computer, but if there was ever a reason to go out and get the 46" HD TV to mount on the chimney breast in the drawing room of the new Mineworksfine Towers it's this one!

Start saving your money now, people! You've got 2 months to come up with a 1TB hard drive (they don't even cost 100 bucks)!

HD at last! I left a message on the BBC HD consultation page about it some months ago - do I think that was the reason they have gone HD - er no, sadly. ...

Still about time! I can not wait for the new series.

115 for 1.5 :DD

Based on the last two 720p downloads I had, you'll get about 25mb per minute. That's 1.5gb per episode.

Remember though, the standard 700mb release won't grow in size, but will noticeably improve in quality.
The XviD encode now doesn't have to waste bits on including encoding flaws from the SD broadcast :D

Scene HD rips always take a while, I'm eager to see what the iPlayer is like, in terms of speed and quality. The SD ones go online a few minutes after it finishes, so maybe they'll have immediate HD as well

For you maybe, but here a TB is something new (that means, bleeding expensive)
Anyway, I keep the previous episodes in dvd, and it wont be different with the new series

Ack, nothing like 5Mb/s bit rate files being passd off as "HD" simply because it's 1280x720 frame size.

Will the quailty of the encodes improve? Yes.

Will they be bigger than the 700MB ones currently out there? Yes.

Will they really be "HD"? No. They'll be "HD UltraLite". Half the frames and 1/3 the bit rate of normal HD.

I highly doubt the Scene will be doing 720p60fps encodes at any bit rate.

Well, for the people being concerned about the file size: We usually rely on "the Scene" to do the rips and then release them to the public.
The scene does 1h long HD stuff in a bit less than 1.5 GB
The original broadcasted stream could be anything from 4-8 GB, I don't know what bitrate they do.
Afaik the BBC does Anamorphic fullHD if you want to call it that being 1440x1080 strechted to 16:9.

I hope the full monty will be on hdbits, my seedbox wants it to be, baad...

So according to google it's 125 bucks?

Well close enough to the 100 I said. Are 500 pesos a lot?

I hope the rips will be available in 720p because they would be only double the size of a normal rip (700 MB vs 1.4 GB, just like the Polar Special).

I seriously don't think 1080p is worth 5x the space of 720p, considering the minor improvement.

This is why I hate having shit computers that can't handle HD.

/wanders off to find out how much a Freesat HD box costs...

For what it's worth, if you have a PS3 or an XBox360, they should be able to render HD videos to your TV. You just need to share your media collection from your PC.

Why should they do encodes with ten fps more than the BBC broadcasts first place? Just asking.

well, there goes my porn folder
