Beer

I?ve got a whole Set (6) ... but only Erdinger wich I liked when I bought them (and is more available over here), but these days I prefer Paulaner.

Don?t get me wrong on the Oktoberfest ... I loved it ... for the spectacle. I?m sure there are many smaller fairs down south where they serve better beer. But that?s hardly the point of it all. It?s the size, the foreign tourists, the madness ... that?s what?s makes it so special. The bad beer is just a small annoyance. :)

That's why I like the Rosenheimer Wiesn so much. It's large enough to be a spectacle, with busses coming from austria and italy and all around bavaria - but at the same time it's small enough to be affordable (only 6,80 for a mass!) and fun.

Really small Local fairs are no fun to me, cause they just have the local idiots and chavs, but the Rosenheim one is the best of both worlds.

I have neutral ones:

Uuummmmm... I beg to differ.

They served pitchers of some yellowish liquid in Texas, which had a faint beer flavour and strangely made the Americans all drunk but had the effect of orange lemonade from Aldi on us Germans.

We made use of that by beating them at darts all the time. But usually at some point they wanted to switch to arm wrestling -- that always was the point for us to leave.

Same here when we where in canada.....we used to order a jack-daniels in between every couple off beers just to get a buzz......and that was watered down to!

on another note : a thing that as someone who goes beertasting on a regular basis annoys me to no extend plausible in the universe is that whenever foreing people bring up belgian beer's they always come up with : Duvel, Leffe, Grimbergen.....and the british have an obsession with stella :p

Stella is a blond lagerbeer, one of many, blond lagers are as common as coca cola in the average belgian household and culture, pop over to the neighbours? have a stella, pop down to the pub after work? have a stella, meeting at freinds home over the weekend? ....you get the idea....we drink the stuff when where thirsty.....the end.

duvel, leffe and consorts: all over commercialised, overhyped, mass-produced commercial wreckages off what used to be a traditional brewed beer......

Don't get me wrong there not BAD beers, but there's a lot more to be seen in the belgian beerculture, stuff that doesn't make it over the border easly I grant you that, but made in a much more traditional way, with alot more love and respect than profitmargins in mind.... real gems are to be found, and there's alot to choose from (estimates range from 900 to 1800 different kinds, that's for a population of 9 million people)

*ends rant*

Talking about weiss beers. I've always had a problem with them being way too "thick". I'm almost unable of finishing a 50cl. bottle of that stuff. When I go to the supermarket and pick a german beer I always choose a barok dunkel that's much more drinkable for my taste than any weiss beer.

We've had enough of this Euro-shit.

Any one in the Northern Indiana/Chicago/Michigan area needs to take the wine trail from New Buffalo to Paw Paw. Get drunk off your ass for real cheap, I got a tasting of 12 wines, 6 beers, a brandy, and a vodka for 10 bucks. And it's Michigan so we don't have sticks up our asses like California. Plus I'm in love with Round Barns Cocoa Stout.

In other news, is it me or is Leinenkugel's amber and original lager pretty meh. Oh, well have to try their new Oktoberfest Martzen.

Two beers and a rum and Coke on an empty stomach. Time to do some buzzed driving in Forza. Before I get up at 5 AM, yeah!

Time for a Crocodile Dundee moment:

That's not a beer...

THIS IS A BEER:

lulz, ostfriesen, I'm surprised they could even get it in the bottle  they must have had some bavarian assistance.

Damn, I'm just now trying to reconstruct what the fuck I drank last night.... judging by my head it was at least 5 liters of beer, but I can't remember a whole lot more than that. But I'm sure it was good beer.....

For the start of the new House-season ... I couldn?t pass this pilsener and weizen by at the store ...

Not that both of them were any good IMO ... far too much herbal taste, almost like spicy-sharp, peppery. But who gives a damn about taste when he can make a nerdy Joke with beer :)

That's just bottle envy :p

It's empty now, btw. Managed to drink it in one evening :)

How much is that Ostfriesen in Germany?

It costs about 16 Euros but you get 10 Euros back, when you return the bottle.

Not ordinarily a beer drinker, but a friend of mine picked me up some O'Fallon (local brewery) Pumpkin Beer:

It's actually really good. It has just a hint of the taste of pumpkin pie. It's really much better than the Harvest Moon pumpkin beer I tried at the local RenFest a couple of weeks ago.

Belgium and Britain - (well some of us!) have a lot in common - some of our admittedly rare stuff is nice - no very nice too - but Belgium is about the only country I can think of were you go into a bar (yest one bar) and there are 60 different beers available! Result - you guys are great!

I can do you one better than 60, my parents own a bar, they specialise in Belgian beer's, there up to 183 different beers at the moment and its still rising...

I'n fact i've just gotten 4 more in yesterday for me to euhrmm 'test' sometime this weekend to see if whe should put them on the menu....

There's another pub not far from here who is rumored to be up to 400 different beers.
Only problem is every time you order something of the rarer beers from the menu its usualy 'just out of stock'..... so I take that 400 with a big grain of salt....

Ow, and for the record , some of the best evenings of my life have been spent in British pubs or in belgian bars with Schottish people ;)
We realy are alot alike sometimes I agree.
