Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

And I still say I would never change the James May one back to the default one, EVER

Now turn right

Oh cock, recalculating

On a unrelated note, i was driving along when Bad to the bone started playing. I know that when that song plays, your car starts doing some seriuous shit, windows down and back to classical FM the rest of the way for me please.

Hey, maybe some of you can chime in, or maybe I should start a thread, but anyway.

I'm going to need a car for this winter. And I have trouble choosing :? My budget is around 4k$CAD

Right now I'm torn between a AWD car for added safety/fun in the snow, or just getting a reliable ordinary car. I want something reliable, and relatively cheap on gaz (4 cylinder) and manual and preferably something before 2000 so I won't pay tax on the car.

What I'm checking right now is:

Subaru Impreza/Legacy : Would be the perfect choice, but I'm concerned about the 2.5L engine reliability. I could go for older subarus with the 2.2, but they are rarer and a lot are automatics.

Honda Civic/Toyota Corolla : The perfect cheap car. Honestly I wouldn't mind, if only they weren't FWD. (I had 3 Nissan 240sx so I'm kinda biased towards RWD. Stupid preconceived idea...)

I also checked for Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, but they are a little over my budget. Also, there is the older Audi A4 Quattro, but I don't think that's really reliable at all... I also checked for my choices of RWD, and except old BMWs there is not much more choice (I'd really like another 240sx but they all are rusted to death and/or overpriced...). I wouldn't mind an old RWD Volvo wagon, but there is like one or 2 in all of the province of Quebec for sale...

Maybe I missed some obvious options, so don't be shy to tell me ;)

Ryugyong International Motoring Expo: Speaking to the press at the General Motors press conference, Vice Chairman Bob Lutz introduced the exciting opportunities that GM?s forthcoming Voltec platform presents for three minutes, and then demonstrated his power by tearing up the podium and throwing it at ?those French pansies? manning the nearby Aston Martin booth. Fielding questions from reporters on the series hybrid architecture, Lutz noted that AP automotive correspondent Henry Crun should ?just get up here and try saying that to my face,? before taking off his shirt and ending the press conference.

Lutz?s behavior confused industry analysts, in light of GM President and CEO Fritz Henderson?s recent departure. ?We had assumed that Henderson?s departure was due to board pressure, particularly from chair Ed Whitacre," said Brian "Mad Dog" Kernighan, of investment firm Int, Argc, & Char, "but according to the graffiti left by Lutz on the side of Ford World Headquarters, Henderson left because he was, and I quote, a ?pansy midget chump,? who lived in fear of Lutz?s ?iron fists.? Lutz?s actions at the Ryugyong show today support this.?

General Motors representatives could not be reached for comment on either matter, until Lutz drove through the wall of our office in a 2010 Cadillac CTS-V and demanded to know if any of us ?little Chinamen? thought we could ?take him.?

I never knew Bob Lutz could look so awesome as a pear. Also...he is a man that is allowed to wear aviators, they suit him well.

I need a Thema 8.32 in my life.

I want a Stratos kit, even though I would probably barely fit in it.

I could build the whole thing in a month if I did nothing else.

i wouldn't want an LSx in such a stratos kit. i'd go for an S2K or M3 engine or sth the like. straight six, high revving, very responsive, ...

but no loads of torque which would spin you out when you bend your itching toe...
