Official 2010 F1 Pre-Season Thread

Wikipedia has a large circuit diagram. I see some potential overtaking corners, but if the cars get slowed down by turn 8, then the overtaking opportunity is gone

I don't like it. It just makes the track even more Mickey Mouse than before. And they say it improves overtaking opportunities... Maybe it did for the GTs that ran a 24-hour race on that layout, but for F1 it's just going to be a silly addition.

You want to hate this circuit, don't you? Even if it would be a carbon copy of Silverstone, Spa or Pikes Peak, you'd call it "Mikey Mousey"....

By eliminating that small straight I don't think they are really taking away much so I can't see the new section hurting the race only helping or being just meh whatever.

I see it this way -> more corners = longer lap distance = less laps per race = less straights during the race distance = less overtaking opportunities.

^ why not? Audi pulled it off in the LM series.... no reason why they couldnt do the same in F1 if they had the choice
Audi pulled it off because endurance racing is completely different and relies on being able to pit less for fuel over a long race time.

For me diesel powered cars win only because they have some regulation advantage. In LM petrol turbo engines are limited to 4 litres and diesel to 5,5. Similar situation with WTCC. If petrol and diesel engines had the same regulation only fuel consumption wouldn't make them even close.

Diesel if for traffic in your saloon, not for racing. ;)

That too, the regulations at the time really favored diesel but those are starting to be tightened.

Yes, but do you know what the redline is of those cars?

I don't think you could make an engine that is equally competitive with what they have now due to that fact alone.

It is interesting that no system changes the fact that Button wins, but 2nd-4th change quite a lot under the various systems. Kimi and Hamilton also swap 5th with the different systems.
I have it all as a spreadsheet with formulas, so I can quickly punch in any other systems that people want to try.

I just saw this thread browsing Autosport. Closing the pit lane under that assumption isn't very intelligent, grasping at straws with that particular forum but stay with me. If the pit lane were to close after the safety car comes out then anyone who had just driven through the accident, in an incident where carbon fiber scraps are on the track, would be riding on ticking time bombs until the pits open and they can change tires. Still, it is the Autosport forum and they have a precedent of not being the most intelligent bunch.

So who do guys reckon gonna win the first race? (without knowing anything about the cars)

Pick one driver.

(I thought about making a separate thread just for that single question, but meh)

You missed out the old F1 scoring system which meant you could only count so many of the races towards your final points total, most recently used between 85-90 when only your best 11 counted, cost Prost the title in 88!
