Even Hippies Won't Buy Battery Electric Vehicles!

It should be noted that even if the battery problem is solved, these "community electric vehicles" are still irrelevant because they all use old tech. Lead Acid batteries and a golf car motor do not innovation make.

CA already has rolling blackouts sometimes. They also won't do things like 'upgrade the infrastructure' because it might 'hurt the environment' or 'unfairly discommode poor people.'

It's because we have no money.

It's because we have no money.

You guys were doing this before you ran out of money, too.

In 1989, your state took apart a perfectly good, functioning then-modern nuclear reactor because you didn't like that icky nuclear plant, blocked all other generating plant construction in the name of environmentalism, then eleven years later whined about how you didn't have enough power any more.

If you idiots had kept Rancho Seco and allowed San Onofre One to be retrofitted and reopened, you would have been able to make up more than half of your electricity shortfalls in 2000 and 2001.... but nooooooooo..... You idiots had to 'save de earf!'

No sympathy for stupidity like that. And remember, this was when California actually had money that you people did all this. Lie in the bed you have made and stop demanding my tax money bail out your shortsightedness.

I bet his parents voted for some/all of it, though. :p

Also, if you believe that this was the wrong decision, what have you been doing to try to reverse it? If the answer is 'nothing', well.....

To be fair, the people against nuclear are extremely vocal so trying to fix it is going to lead that same small minority going on another protest march.

Going from the consultations about nuclear power in my province, all rational discussion was drowned out by a group that traveled from town to town to try to influence the process and block nuclear (and shout at video recordings). It worked, even with a mostly pro-nuclear government in power.

Yeah, we had those nutcases come down to Texas and try to rabble-rouse against the planned South Texas Project nuclear reactor expansion. They complained loudly and vociferously to the media that they couldn't find any local support for their point of view and that many of the locals were actively hostile to them.

They failed to get any traction here and were summarily run out of town by angry residents.

I'm pretty sure they did actually, but then again, they are Bolsheviks...

I admit I don't go around campaigning or anything, but I think that voting against anyone who supports that stuff is more than 'nothing' :p

Or move out of that hippy sate. The good thing about WA is that the libertarians and wacko far right conservatives do prevent the left from being too radical.

Hmm, which one didn't bother to use marketing research to pick a name that is short and to the point:

Zap of Concord (that's good, very clever)
Davis Electric Cars in Davis (to the point, that works)
EcoMotors in Santa Rosa (simple, that is a good name too)
Ethical Approach Electric Vehicle Center of San Jose (DAaaaaaah! :? Do I get a lecture on sustainability when I am in for service??)

See? We're not totally retarded here in California. There aren't even THAT many Priuses around.

I agree, but a very loud, annoying and vocal minority has taken over your state, disregarded logic, and then expect we, the other 300 million citizens, to go merrily along with them. Maybe I am full of Midwest sensibility and prudence, but we are sick of it. Fed up. We are not people of "flyover states", stop pissing on us like we are insignificant.

Or we'll vote in a George Bush in again.

Same with Wisconsin. Madison, where I grew up, is a socialist republic. And it works, despite being surrounded by very right leaning counties and people. Where else can you find a city as radical as Berkley with a tax rate of 5.5%?

Ever think "they are just jealous of menards"

PS save big money at menards

I am sorry I see no reason for nuclear power - its costly and dangerous and not only because of accidents. If it is run by private capital there are financial pressures - see the story about the Ohio plant. Any how not in the UK - unnecessary.

Back to electric cars - shit!

If you're worried about waste/security/whatever, look at the thorium reactor idea.
Also, your very own government has determined that they have no choice but to build more nuclear plants as none of their other options are working out at all.

Yes but we will not get that we will get a crap PWR built by the French at a cost because the Government have wasted too much time farting about - energy policy my arse.

Then perhaps your government should not have spent all that time and energy building wind farms and sticking turbines on the sides of buildings and other BS that simply do not work. :p

Now, that said, I don't blame you for not wanting a British-made one. The ghost of Joe Lucas is still active in the UK. :p

I'm not. And besides, it's unlikely that even a cent of your tax money is going to any bailout of any kind. I like it here, I like it as it is. I like a little bit of stupidity, as it keeps the real disasters at bay. It's karma, man. The big boys always get the hate. Remember, we run the internet.

Canadian one was about the best of a them at one time - CANDU. They should be the severn barrage - whay are they playing silly buggers about it? Why are the offshore windfarms not hybred with tidal collars? Why is no money being spent on this stuff - well I know why the nuclear lobby is embedded.

They should publish proper undoubted accounts - which no one does. These power stations, if you take into account all the things you should and not massage the figures - are horrendously expensive. The French a have made it work by not pussyfooting about and building loads and loads - they do not have the planning processes we have. Their country is no where a crowded as ours is either.

No, you don't. One call to the Verizon NOC north of DFW and the Internet goes away.

(My friend merp used to be one of the guys manning that particular 'switch'...)
