Several people are coming over to work on the car today.
I don't understand how in the hell you people can be working on it on a bloody TUESDAY, when I have to be in Pennsyltucky all day.

Just a little jealous.

Car looks good, guys. Sorry I've been away from IRC, but I've been out and about a lot recently. I'll probably ask all my inane questions and make all my comments regarding the car in there.

Great pickup, though. You quite possibly found one of the best LeMons deals out there.

Found sitting where the spare tire should be...

It's like that can of Fix O Flat is mocking us.

Also welcome to the forum jonup, love that you've been a member for 5 years but it's taken the awesome of LeMons to get you to post!

Man I've been following the site before it was finalgear. (Viper, what was the name of the site before it became famous?) I just talk to much so I am/we are better off if I stay away from posting.;)
Punisher Bass, I hope there were a few unopened ones coplimentary with the car!

I think I'll have to organise a family holiday to Chicago so I can break off and come to the race. That would be brilliant, but very unlikely. Looks like a great car, look forward to seeing the updates.

It wouldn't be a pontiac if it didn't have cheap ass watered down american beer in the trunk.

RE: Manual powered 3800s.

Back on the old bonnevilleclub.com forum there was a guy building up a 92 or 93 bonneville for rally racing and he was going to put a manual in it. This was under the old SCCA Rally america adjusted displacement rules so a 3800 got in under the cap easily. I think even a SC 3800 would just squeak in.

No idea whatever happened to that project or it it got completed but he said a manual conversion was doable.

That said I think for Lemons an automatic is better. NO chance of a missed shift and it is easier to set up auxiliary cooling on an auto trans. Also multiple drivers of varying skill levels and one clutch is always a bad idea.

Yeah, there are a couple of options for a FWD transmission - none of them are quite "factory" though

Big long update;
Engine was reeaallly bad looking when we started; Coated in oil *everywhere*. Couldn't tell where it was leaking from, so we ended up degreasing the whole thing. The bad news, is it caused a coil to act up, so now Cyl 1 is misfiring at under 2400rpm.

So some other news about the car; It was previously used for towing, as there is a 4-pin harness tapped into the brake lamps, and some holes in the frame where the hitch was. That might explain the removal of the rear exhaust pipes.

Also, car has flood damage to it (typical rust), and the airbag sensors under the passenger seat was *rusted* and coated with limescale.

Here is a real wtf: The car has a Virginia inspection sticker on the windshield, however it doesn't match the car. At all.

Progress is beautiful;

HOLY SHIT even the sunroof is supercharged!

So was the whole car flooded? Does this explain the strange paint status? Are you guys allowed to keep the Airbags in? I guess not?

Nice progress though ;) Keep up the updates :p

Judging by the status of the interior, I'd say no it wasn't totally flooded and it wouldn't cause the clear coat to chip off like that. The airbags will probably be sold off, there's no good reason to keep them in a race car.

Be careful when selling them though, over here you are not allowed to do it and have to have explosives permits etc. etc. and they need to be exploded in a junkyard to prevent malfunctioning airbags being sold, lawsuits etc.......and seeing that you live in the country which invented the term "lawsuit", better check twice how you sell them and make a waterproof contract ;)

They don't take donations
I hate that I always forget to get to these LeMons gathering. I'll try to make it to Chicago. Any one from detroit area should give me a reminder. We can drive there together. gotspeed? I don't want to drive for 4.5 hours by myself. It sucks you can bring chicks with you.

I'll be going through Detroit from Canadaland.

Oh and this thread needs more supercharger whine .

Flood damage, eh? If you could trace it back to New Orleans, you got a bit of modern history there.

Reason why I think New Orleans because the used car market was flooded with those cars, often selling for well under $1000.

*EDIT: Nevermind, noticed the emissions sticker.

Damn you giant mass of land between me and helping you guys (as a delivery boy of course since I'm useless at mechanics and no one wants more drag on such a project).

Say Quiky, your neighborhood looks pretty posh.

Wish we had something like that in Aus. I'd be there in a flash if there wasn't the, err..., geographic difficulties. Hell, I may even fly out there to join you one year. But best of luck with the car and races.

Except all the neighbors were staring as we had everything out in the yard..
Some guy walking a tiny dog just stood and stared at us for a while.

Few more pictures from today.
