The awesome boats thread

Until this happens. :p

As a tourist the boat ride with BC Ferries was very nice though, beautiful views. Apart from that one occasion, I dislike boats in general. They're just too slow. Although they do from time to time finally give me the chance to read that one book I bought years ago. :p

These are all private yachts:

But for me personally.. that would be enough I guess:

These are all private yachts:
snip Lots and lots of Mega-yachts

I wonder why one would ever need a yacht that is soooooo large. Super-Yachts ok, but mega-yachts offer more floorspace than reaaaaaly large villas.
I mean you probably ever use only 10% of the ship, and unless your family is extremely large or you constantly throw large parties then it's just wasted space.

I think it's because they can. The same logic can be applied to any luxury item, why have multiple houses, why have 50 cars, why live in a 50,000 sq. ft. house? Mostly its to prove to other rich people how much money you have.

I would love a big ass yacht, I'd put in a tennis court, b-ball court, maybe a gun range. That shit takes up place.

Secondly, I saw Paul Allens yacht on that pic list, whats 3-400 million dollars to a man worth 20 billion. That yacht impacts him as much as a regular upper middle class family would be affected by buying a Toyota Carolla.

60' is the largest boat I'd ever want. The size is half the fun of a boat. Plus you can't go anywhere but port to port with a big ass yacht, a normal size boat gives you the freedom to go anywhere you want when you want.

And sailing > powerboats.

amen sir....

as awesome as the maltese falcon is and don't get me wrong it's fucking AWESOME... I would much rather have the Mirabella V. The worlds largest single masted sailing yacht.

D7990546.jpg

at 246' 8" she is only 42' 4" shorter than the Falcon.

D7990589.jpg

but at 292" her single mast is nearly 100" taller

Also in my personal opinion she is FAR sexier than the Falcon

and thats the last from the outside

Her interior is also quite nice

how do you achieve this without taking the whole ship apart?

They took the deck off, removed the boilers and oil tanks, replaced them with a modern diesel plant and with the space they had left over installed two extra Grand Salons, bringing the total on board to three.

The entire ship was in such poor condition from decades of neglect that the whole thing had to be dismantled. They went to great lengths to keep as much of the vessel's fixtures original as possible, but all the systems were updated with state-of-the-art technology and automation. Now you don't need a whole staff of engineers to run the boilers and steer the vessel, one person can operate it for some time without any assistance.

I wonder if there are any whaling factory ships lying around to turn into a waterborne garage. It already has a slipway out the back, just needs a ramp and some lifts.

Here's one of my favorite sailing yachts:

The Red Dragon. And the Great news (for me at least) is that she's available for charter.

I kinda like ferries, specialy nightferries, park the car in the hold, spend the evening getting plasterd at the bar, spend 2 hours stumbling around trying to find your cabin , sleep it off, in the morning take a shower, have breakfast and your there! car and all.

Everything about the Red Dragon is so tastefully done, which is why I love it to bits.

I still have the yachting magazine article on it. Sort of provides an incentive to get rich really.
