General Anime Thread

And now to dredge up an old post:

Has anyone watched Sora No Otoshimono? Its basically a soft core porn anime :)mrgreen:) but its quite nice after a few episodes! (And there are only 13 episode so far so you can be done with it soon)

*Crossing fingers for a episode 14.

Description is accurate, but as far as I can tell that's a whole genre :)

It's a bit too similar to To Love-Ru... which, if you watch the OVAs, takes "basically softcore porn" to a whole new level.

Funny you brought that up. I didn't watch any animes for a while and after awdrifter mentioned Angel Beats, I gave it go. Its not bad.

sure enough, my comp and internet conked out when trying to watch haruhi. :(

Hey guys. I don't really watch anime, but I'm slowly starting to get into it due to motivation from friends... Anyway I finished watching Code Geass last week. I didn't like the series in the beginning all that much, but it really pulled itself together towards the end and I really liked it. Apart from that I've seen Death Note, Witch Hunter Robin, and Initial D First Stage.

I'm starting Evangelion now (once again, due to pressure from friends xD) and it's a bit of an effort since I'm not used to subs yet. The only subbed anime I watched was Initial D, the rest were all English dubs. Anyway I've been recommended LOGH, but I'm not too sure about a 110 episode commitments. Do you guys have any more ideas/suggestions?

Watch the other stages as well! Then only it gets better. And maybe try Wangan Midnight, its also surprisingly enjoyable.

Really? I heard the first stage is the best and after that it just goes downhill and gets repetitve. I've got Wangan Midnight downloaded, I just haven't gotten around to watching it. See I've got a really bad habit of downloading stuff and not watching it. For example I had Code Geass downloaded for a year and I just got around to watching it now. I've also had Monster downloaded for ~8 months and haven't seen it. I've had Gundam Wing downloaded for over a year now and haven't seen it... xD

I dunno. It didn't feel like repetitive for me. But there are more races in the later stages so maybe some people don't like them that much. I personally like it.

Finished watching Angel Beats, it was a good show, but too rushed.

Ending spoiler
The ending doesn't make sense! If Kanade has Yuzuru's heart, how can she be in that world? Or does that mean she died even after the heart transplant? WTF? That's a weak twist! The ending scene is kinda nice, I was kinda afraid that Yuzuru would end up like the Creator and wait for Kanade again in that would forever. But it's nice to see dissappeared in the ED.

If we assume Kanade didn't die but merely in a coma waiting for Yuzuru, and she woke up in the real world after she dissappeared. then how did the ending sequence make sense? We know for sure Yuzuru is dead. If Yuzuru is reincarnated, he can't be the guy that's walked past Kanade in the real world.

Just finished watching the whole thing.....why is that everything I watch these days is sad...anyways

For the heart transplant maybe the doctor cocked up :p or it maybe after the transplant that she got in a accident and got killed...that reminds me, we don't exactly see how Kanade dies so I guess anything is possible.

I think your second guess is wrong. I think its safe to assume that both died in the real world. And they both reincarnated. And for the auidience sake, the designers/animaters/whoever made them look like before. I mean what would that ending be if two unknown people met. So I guess I would let that one slide :D

Evangelion is poo... no sorry that's too nice a description. It's like some one is trying to show you a psychotic breakdown in 26 episodes but running out of budget for the two last episodes and then remaking them once the series becomes a vhs/dvd hit with the otakus...
It's just annoying and makes you dislike all the main cast except perhaps pen pen and it's owner... It is interesting on one level ... actually as a thesis it's highly interesting as entertainment it's utter crap.

I don't know anything about Legend of Galactic Heroes as I haven't watched it not feeling interested in it at all.
Witch Hunter Robin was good though, if you want similar stuff there's Wolf's Rain for example.
Initial D is better as manga... but then you have to like manga to begin with I guess.

But do try to get hold of the subs... try sites like tokyotoshokan or nyaantorrents and their batch category to download a whole series.

On to my own stuff now.
I've been watching quite a few anime's lately. The ones that are complete and I've finished watching them are:
Working!! Funny slice of life, not too serious and thus pretty shallow, with extremely little development when you think about it, it spent most it's time presenting the cast.
Sasameki Koto Well who doesn't like girl on girl action?! and as always it was pretty anticlimactic... because the Japanese despises climaxes I guess.
Kemono no Souja Erin (long version) Cool story, not the sort of kid's show I had to watch when I was young... intelligent and all of those things.
Shigurui Great artwork and animation but utterly crap none the less, don't watch it unless you like stories without a real begining or end. oh and you have to like sadism and buckets of blood and loads of internal organs spilling forth. ... oh and some rape...
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 Great drama, it's a must watch if you like that sort of thing.

I also started watching
Durarara Which seems like a great anime albeit a tad bit predictable as it's nearing the end.
Itazura na Kiss not sure I'll continue watching it... stopped in the middle of a completely crap graduation episode as I hate humor built on people embarassing themselves and being laughed at. otherwise seems like a anime j-drama, and it does so with loads of tongue in cheek most of the time and it pushed the right buttons most of the time... but well I already explained.
K-ON!! (second season that is) just great, loved the first season so much I started reading the 4 panel manga after it was finished.
Giant Killing Pretty funny, they've got people who can actually speak a foreign language to speak that foreign language... although they are crap at voice acting it's still cool to hear someone speak British English rather than broken Japanese English.
Chu-Bra!! (what's up with having two exlamation marks in the titles nowdays, I sorta get K-ON!! as it's the 2nd season whereas the first season was just K-ON!, sorry I'm runing off on a tangent) Cute series with an interesting set up that isn't as pervy as it might seem when the main subject is a lingerie loving 13 year old who wants to start an underwear club in her school. it deals with the subject pretty maturely actually.
Saraiya Goyou uhm it's interesting enough for me to keep watching after the first 5 episodes. great backgrounds / matte(?) paintings.
And lastly
B-Gata H-Kei about a nymphomanic virgin girl who wants to have one hundred sexual partners. yeah... it's a rom kom. but it get's it's buisness done quite well.

K-ON second season? When was this? (Hayate no Gotoku did the same !! thing with season two...)

Chu-Bra.... err..... that is..... uhhh.... it is less mature if the viewer is not mature

B-Gata H-Kei, just finished a couple of days ago, damn this stuff would cause riots over here.

I'll have to look up Working because as you may have noticed, for some reason the whole "follow a bunch of (usually young) people as they do nothing important" genre clicks with me for some reason.

It is a most strange addiction isn't it.

Hmm I should like almost +rep you for reading through all of that :D

Minami-ke is another slice of life you might like if that's your thing.

Waaaaaaaay ahead of you. It had some really good moments but 3 series was a bit too long.

And I burn through stuff pretty quick so I'm always looking for ideas, no problem reading through a wall of text in that pursuit ;)

Evangelion 2.22 was goddamn awesome, they even made some of the characters less annoying! Grab it in HD if you can, it's glorious.

Even then it still doesn't make sense. Remember when Yuzuru first met Yuri, she's already fighting with Kanade. So Kanade must've died sometime before Yuzuru. So how can she receive his heart?

If you're willing to put stock in a theory than came from 4chan...
It's the heart that contains the spirit seen in the afterlife.
