1984 Honda VF500F Interceptor

It is, however, coming together and looks great next to my 700. We even managed to get some of the weird residue off the white part of the tank.

Some people would have killed for that pair back in the 80s. :D

I've safely gotten it up here to North Dakota. I've given up on the carbs and sent them to a specialist in California to fix my remaining leaks. The only thing really left to do now is replace the rear sprocket, get that damn sheared bolt out of my front sprocket and wait for the carbs to come.

All that is left is:

-Get carbs back from specialist and install. Should be in the next 2 weeks.
-Replace rear sprocket
-Get sheared bolt out of front sprocket and replace, or just get another front sprocket (they are about 10 bucks).
-Secure fairing properly.

That is it.

I gotta admit it's pretty cool watching you resurrect this old bike. Keep up the good work, it's payin' off!

Well, I failed at getting the broken bolt out of the sprocket, and at finding new bolts of sufficient grade at the hardware store here in Williston, ND, so I ordered a new sprocket, bolts and lock plate.

The fun of the project stage has worn off.

Here is a pic of where it lives right now (Grandma's enormous garage next to my truck.)

A positive update for once...

I decided to have a go at putting the rear sprocket in, after all, how hard can it be, and it turns out, not very.

All that is left now, is get the replacement front, which will be here on Wednesday, and wait on the carbs, which should be here in the next week or so.

I just paid for my carb service, and they will most likely be here on wednesday, barring act of god/mail truck crashing/universe hating.

So close, so close....

Got the new front sprocket on and tensioned the chain tonight.

Carbs are now going to be here either wednesday or thursday, depending on if USPS decides to fail or not.

Unfortunately, there are storms rolling in, so all I could do was run around the block a couple of times, but it is done.

Finally.

:dance::cool::smile::w00t::D

congrats was it everything you hoped it would be?

Based on my one short jaunt, I would say so. It is just so easy to ride, and yet very very quick.

Awesomeness- congrats!

 Have fun. It looks very nice after the restoration based on the last pic.

Congrats! Have fun and ride safe!

Well, as I stated earlier in the general motorbikers thread, I gave up and took it to the local Honda dealer to have them do the calipers again and I'm also going to have them do a valve and cam chain adjustment as the valve train is quite noisy.

The upshot is that I should have it back in about 10 days.

$195 + shipping, IIRC. There is a guy out west who specializes in them and he does an outstanding job.

Yup, it was 195 plus shipping both ways. It worked out to be about 260 all said and done, and worth every penny.

If you want to get in touch with the guy, let me know and I'll give you his email address.
