Best Android apps

I tried it, but it (so far) doesn't conform to the android standard .nomedia file, which prevents it from indexing the dir which has the said file in it. Otherwise it's very fast and has a nice interface, but right now I have 300-something .ogg files from games that the normal media player by HTC doesn't pick up cause of the .nomedia file.
Gave doubletwist another go and it seems to have fixed the .nomedia index issue. It's also miles faster than the stock Sense music app. I think I'll just remove that and use only doubletwist. It actually is as fast as it's supposed to be, no lag anywhere and it has a really nice design. They also say that lockscreen controls are coming soon.

Hmm I might have to check that out, although I have had no issues with the stock MotoDroid music player, although an equalizer would be nice.

I've had issues/bugs with DoubleTwist where the music player will inadvertantly just turn on by itself at the most random of times.

This is on a Motorola Milestone with 2.1.

Still, can't complain about the iTunes sync though.

The slightly tweaked HTC player in CM6 is pretty nice. All I would ask for are options for downloading album art and an equalizer. Maybe a lockscreen widget.

The HTC Player on my Hero has a lockscreen widget, so they must have taken it out? I have no qualms with the music player though it could use some more features for sure. Sleep timer would be nice.

Doubletwist automatically downloads missing album art, provided you have the id3 sorted out (album name, artist) and lockscreen controls are slated for the next version. http://twist.to/androids

The player in CM isn't HTC, it's just a reskinned stock Android player. It doesn't have lockscreen controls, but you can hold the volume buttons to change tracks when locked, quite useful. Also, they fixed the Android 2.1 bug with the music randomly starting playback in CM 5.0.8, and it doesn't reappear in CM6.

I just downloaded Google Sky Map for my HTC Wildfire. Cool app that uses GPS (or something) to show you what is in the sky, Space above you.

The Universe in Your Pocket

With Google Sky Map for your Android phone you can discover and browse the night sky just by pointing your phone to space.

By using your Android phone's orientation sensors, we can show you a star map for your location. Explore planets, stars, constellations, and more! Learn the name and location of space objects and impress your friends.

google skymap is probably the best app from google that i bumped into.
it get's your local time gps position and orientation of the phone to show the sky, and it actually is very accurate.

I dunno, I thought Google Earth was damn impressive too. The whole world to explore, literally, at the tip of your fingers?

Only thing is the app itself is like 3-5 MB of space, and w/o root yet I can't afford that kind of real estate on my (admittedly) over-"apped" phone.

I have like 90 MB free on my Hero, but alas, they did not release Google Earth for it!

I like apps that don't use bandwith more :p

I like not having to worry about bandwidth :p

Well, screw you and your unlimited plans...

EDIT: since this is the app thread, I just successfully removed the facebook app from my phone. Hooray! Several uninstallable apps is one of the gripes I have with this OS (or at least HTC's iteration of it).

Yeah, LauncherPro seems nice. I'll try it out instead of the ADW.Launcher, which comes with Cyanogenmod... ADW really isn't too fast (especially after a long phone uptime), and I don't use the advanced features like the app drawer pretty much at all.
