Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

What? You don't think sparklelashes would look good on your jaaaaaaag?
You can keep them when you take them off and put them on other people's cars.

Eyelashes on a car with four headlights? That'd look weird...or like a wolf spider, come to think of it.

Curses! That would make it more awesome looking not lame! Prank is foiled :(

So whatever the hell happened to the Scirocco coming to the US? Did it get canceled?

I don't like the looks all that much but the GTI is a Golf and therefore pretty common... heck, even the GTI by itself is really common.

I seem to remember hearing it got canceled for the US though...

The answer is that VW never said they'd sell it in the US in the first place.

I could be wrong but isent servofluid like hydraulic fluid? that's pretty nasty stuff that likes to eat seals.
On the other hand I doubt a syringe full would cause any real damage.

Something bad I do see in your friends future is possibly dying from stupidity :p

a friend of mine toped off his engine oil with a syringe worth of servo fluid, anything bad might happen ?
... why did he do that?

I changed the oil in my truck the yesterday. I have never seen nastier motor oil come out of a running vehicle. Who knows how long that stuff has been in there. I also replaced the ignition coil, the engine solenoid and the regulator. Still runs like shit but I am getting better gas mileage.

a girl i know had her boyfriend fill up her washerfluid...

...but he poored it into the coolant reservoir (which was empty as well)

How can you even make that mistake, It's clearly labeled where the washer fluid goes D:

Tell her to dump him, seriously, he's probably secretly gay anyway.

My parents citroen after a year has low coolant level and the people at citroen told us that it shouldn't worry us, still I should top it out sometime soon, also kept a keen eye on temperature level this summer, no problems.

Back on topic, well he also put some kind of restriction on the intake leading to the air filter, a pice of metal obstructing >half of that tube. Although the concept doesn't seem that ridiculous seeing that petrol engines regulate their rpm by reducing air flow I couldn't see the point. Plus that pice of metal also creates vortexes, more drag which cause the engine to work slightly harder to suck the same volume of air. The idea behind this is better economy. The thing I told him is, the hundreds of engineers that designed the engine probably knew better.

And also after that experiment with the servo, the oil started bubbling, which from what I've heard ain't good.

My dad got a parking ticket today for parking "9 metres from intersecting highways". We never even knew such a law existed, and we certainly weren't getting in anyone's way by parking there.

Moreover, what do they define as "highways"? We were parked near the intersection of two small, residential roads.

We have a similar law here and it is about ten meters and may even be 15, but most people don?t? know about it here either and the cops are always too busy doing other stuff to stop it.

It is supposed to make the lines of sight clearer and therefore safer. Where I join the main road here, the residents ignore the rule consequently and park on the junction, it is always extremely hazardous when turning out.

Really? Hmm, I could swear I had heard otherwise because I seem to recall a bit of an uproar that it wasn't coming to Canada as well when it went on sale in the US.

Well, no loss, I was mostly just curious why I didn't see it on the VW USA site. I really don't think I'd have picked it over a GTI if I had the option.

A "highway" is pretty much anything that isn't a parking lot. Never hear of that law before, I always thought it was 5m from intersections, though maybe that's stop signs.

I drove past a drag strip here yesterday. I wonder if they ever have amateur nights, I'm somewhat interested to see how quick the GP is at this elevation.

We had a problem with the escort for the first time in 10 years :(

The bearing in the idler pulley broke so the car wouldn't steer properly
We replaced it with a new one and I got the old one as a present :p

That makes sense.

Oh, alright.

They are usually called Test'n'Tune nights. It costs about $20 to enter, and then you just take turns. If there are not a lot of cars that night, you might get to do 10-15 pulls.
