Oh, come on, what's so bad about those E34's? You should be glad they don't look like this:

In my opinion, in almost every case, a slight lowering and stance correction can make the car look much better compared to the stock ride height, a nice set of rims can make a big difference also. In german look, euro styling, or what ever you call it these days, you concentrate mainly in those two things, and when it's done correctly, the result can be pretty nice.
Restrained can be beautiful, and in most cases better than overdone tuning like in that E34 I posted above.

You call this a slight and restrained lowering?

Sure it's slammed, but it's pretty damned clean besides.

Well everyone?s entitled to their opinion.
Big forums like this one have a tendency to develop popular widely accepted opinions though, which many people adopt. You know, like thin girls being ugly, or like any car which has been very visibly modified from it?s original state automatically being carbage.

if you say so...
 It seems like people get particularly touchy with BMWs. Every marque has its purists, but (imo) BMW guys set the standard. When I had my beat-up little E30 it seemed like people either told me to do a concourse restoration on it, or pay 5x what the car was worth for some chrome BBS' and a 3" drop. There were no other options.

The problem with lowering things too much is that it looks like your suspension's broken. Like that green one.

Slightly lowered isn't so bad though.

Well, BMWs tend to be among the cars which are most likely to become victims of people who buy their performance parts at the local hardware store. At least in this part of the world. But, contrary to popular belief, there are people out there with taste who are capable of making cars look good despite the fact that they no longer look like they just left the factory.

But is it still carbage if you know the suspension is not broken?

Personally, I think pretty much all drift cars are carbage. Wannabe drift cars even more so. I don't give a shit how huge the turbocharger is. :p

That's not the case so much here, fortunately people usually just hack up old Hondas here. But I agree with you 100%. The factory rarely gets it completely right. Of course, how to rectify any perceived shortcomings is entirely subjective.

Some of them I like. I grew up going to dirt track races, so I guess I naturally have something for purpose-built cars that are smashed to hell.

And smurfen, sorry your thread has turned into a referendum on car mods.

If going the lowering way, just don't use the window flares and ugly wheels like in the green car. Which IS carbage. If nothing else, the window flares make it into carbage. :)

wen't out and took some pics with my brother last night:

Great shots! Except for number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Last pic is cool, but sepia-toned lighting never is :p

Cool car though. I like that generation of 5 series, stock they are cool, and with some sublime mods, they are some of the coolest cars out there IMO.

Not sure it's worth changing all the street lights in town for a picture. :p

spax and control arms/w powerflex from the 525 is now on the 520...
Spent a total of 4 hours on the front end, pulling it apart and putting it back together all alone. 3rd time pulling apart the suspension on an e34, really getting the hang of it now
