2010 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix

I'm all for no quali. Obviously. :p

seriously good idea

in the event of a postponed qualifying, after x amount of hours has passed and quali not happened, quali is scrapped and the grid slots are decided randomly, using a hat and some balls. martin brundle could even walk down the pit lane with said bag as part of a "grid walk"

Ok here we go. These are just the snaps I've taken on my iPhone. There's only a couple as when I've wanted to take pictures seriously, I've been using my SLR, or it has been pouring like today and I've been reluctant to use either.

Once I get home I'll go through the hundreds of shots from my SLR, edit the RAW files and post the best of the bunch.

Enjoy!

Lots of people had these ponchos on today. I struggled to get a decent snap of these showing the whole "wet race" on the back. If it's wet again tomorrow I'll be looking to get one of these!

Those with proper weather proofing weren't perturbed by the rain. This guy took the chance to have a snooze.

I can assure you the photos on my SLR actually feature cars!

Today was absolutely horrible out there. It rained hard all day, and even harder when the cars were supposed to be out for quali. We could literally see about an inch or more of water running down the casino triangle and final corner for the entire time quali was supposed to be on.

Big respect to the Torro Rosso drivers though. At the end of FP3 they got into formation and drove around together revving the engines and waving to the crowd. At least we got some joy for the day!

I've got only a couple of pictures (didn't want to get my phone wet( so I'll try and upload those shortly. Right now, I need to get dry!

they should be in Delhi with that kind of synchronised swimming!

Yeah rain would be helpful. We're not going to beat the Red Bulls on merit so rain would be a great randomiser. Red Bull dont react as well to changing conditions as well as McLaren do, although I'm still hopeful Webber has a strong race.

It goes in car number order in the event of no qualifying, so it would be Jenson and Lewis 1, 2.

Reverse championship order would be amazing for action, though.

I watched the entirety of qualifying on iplayer, I'm not sure if it was misplaced optimism or sheer stupidity...

You're not alone. I did it live though...you didn't watch it after you knew no quali was ever gonna happen did you?

I say go in alphabetical order.... Alguersuari, Alonso, Button up front, and my dear friends Webber and Vettel way down :D

Reverse championship order is nice if you wanna see 20 cars out in the first corner.

I didn't check before watching just in case I prematurely saw what the results were. This didn't stop me watching, despite the fact that it was fairly evident that no qualifying was going to take place .

Five-place grid penalty for Hamilton

Following two DNFs at the Italian and Singapore Grand Prix respectively, Lewis Hamilton faces another disappointment as the McLaren driver has received a five-place grid penalty for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix. McLaren decided to change his gearbox ahead of Sunday morning's qualifying session.

The team announced on Saturday that it found an oil pressure problem in Hamilton's gearbox. The 2008 Champion will join his colleagues on Sunday morning for qualifying at 10.00 am local time (BST +8).

Cars free to be worked on before ?new? qualifying

No car will enter Parc Ferm? conditions following the failed attempt to get qualifying underway at Suzuka on Saturday, meaning that teams are free to work on their vehicles until after the rescheduled session on Sunday morning.

Usually, all cars are placed immediately under Parc Ferm? conditions in their respective garages ? surveyed by the FIA with CCTV cameras ? between qualifying and the race although, with no qualifying having taken place so far, this will not apply today.

Parc Ferm? conditions will apply as usual after the 10am qualifying session on Sunday morning, though, with no work able to be done before the race begins.
