General Anime Thread

That would be a mistake because Kenshin is fucking awesome... The first 2 seasons (eps 1-62) of the TV series are great (eps 63-95 are not based on the manga and pretty much blow like all filler) also the first OVA is wonderful. The second ova and movie can totally be skipped. Infact i would suggest skipping them.

Sure I'll watch it if it's good, I was more implying that I would try not to go so far as the porn fanfics....

No watch the movie. The movie is so unbelievably terrible that it is hilarious :lmao:
The reflections OVA though, well I watched it once and put it in the trash. Most unnecessarily depressing shit ever.

Kat can zip up manga files and send to people... actually i think I have already I just need to find links

*checks otakuworks* I see volumes 1-28, does that seem about right? It's a pain to read manga digitally though, so I'm not sure I will bother. Of course, I say that having never actually read a hard copy.

Well if you really want some hard copies I have the first 7.
Then I found out manga cost 12$ in America and 500 yen in japan and got angry they were charging 2x the price to translate it

To Aru Majutsu no Index II ep.2
The arch bishop is cute. Looks like we'll see Kaori again next ep. I wish they would give Mikoto more screen time though, I enjoyed Railgun more than Index. I hope they will move the story along, if this ends up like Shana II then I'm really disspointed.

Fiiinnnneeee don't be my sex slave :(
I now have a conflict of interests... :p

I feel bad for the writers/artists who aren't getting money to a degree though. They however are rarely behind the lawsuits and such for piracy etc. (No surprise, I think they don't make much money off sales anyway.)
I'd mail Watsuki a check directly if i knew where to send it

They charge us more because we get much higher quality paper and bindings. Also remember that Tankobon edition tends to be the second printing for most of these manga after they appear in a weekly manga magazine. As such the publisher can charge less because they have already made most of their money off of those earlier printings. Never mind translation cost of printing and the fact that the publishers over here have to pay licensing fees that are sometimes more expensive than the salaries that the original manga ka is paid by the original publisher.

Why not buy the original Japanese tankobon release and then download the fanscans. That way you are supporting the original artist while still still being able to read the manga. YesAsia.com is a pretty great search engine for finding the ISBNs of the manga you want and then you can buy through Kinokuniya and pay real Japanese prices. As for Japanese creators not caring about Fansubs/Fanscans that is pretty much true (while slowly starting to change) very very few anime or manga is made with any thought to the overseas market. We are slowly starting to see a shift in japan where they are starting to come down on the subbers and scanners but it is a very slow change from the very japan centric world view they usually have.

Second season huh? I forgot about that.

As for Shana II, IIRC the first half was largely character development, the plot didn't kick in for a while. Is that what you are referring to?

Character development is code for romantic comedy.

That is more complicated then pokemon toy buying :|
I will just wait for a sale and buy english ones probably. Manga scans rarely translate the author notes anyway.

what manga are you reading? Most of the quality scanners (read not speed scanners) translate everything from the tankobons or at least in my experience. It's all about finding the really good groups.

Yes I have seen some cases of nothing getting translated but the main content, but I've also seen cases of the entire thing done over cover to cover. The same can be said for subs of anime, sometimes you just get the dialog but a really good team will also do songs and on-screen writing/text (e.g. if a character reads a poster or looks at his cell phone).

Shana II
The main storyline was basically stagnent in Shana II. While there are some character development, most of the eps are pointless filler.

Rurouni Kenshin. The only ones I found available for download were like that. Some in god awful unreadable flame fonts and shit too, but with so many scan sites diving recently due to those knew publisher lawsuits it was the best I could find. Very depressing as I really liked Watsuki's Character notes :(

Let me check my rars... i think my scans have translated character notes...

That would be nice as I would rather read manga via computer than book as you can have all of them in a tiny folder instead of a 10 lb stack of books....
Why do they not SELL THEM that way anyway? It would cut out any paper quality and printing money and just pay translators. Then again a movie off iTunes is only 2$ less than one off amazon where you get the actual DVD and packaging so they probably wouldn't drop the price anyway :(

It would be perfect if I could find a comfortable way to hold my netbook sideways....

or buy an E-Reader and load the manga on there. My PRS-500 is old and shitty compared to the new E-Readers and it still does a great job of displaying manga it just sucks on the management side.

Also i just checked and i have the AOSH scans and translations. They don't appear to have character notes in the first volume i will check the later volumes in a bit...

Well yes but you could get a whole lot of manga for the cost of an ebook reader.... reality is I'm not interested enough to purchase either. If something grabs my attention enough I'll look further into it.

I just searched Amazon's Kindle Store for manga. The result? Vampire Hunter D and a vast ocean of hentai (mostly yaoi).

I also clicked on a title that seemed mostly harmless, and was met by the following product description.
If you start the sugoroku game, you cannot go out from the room. Aimed at 'goal' and keep rolling a dice. And you will forced to do naughty acting by the dice's number.
That's some QUALITY translation right there.

I was talking about using the eReader for fanscans... Pretty much any eReader will support image viewing it is just a matter of putting all the scans onto the reader/sd card....

AFAIK no one in the industry is really considering doing digital distro (for eReaders) with their manga. Although i bet you could use an ePub container as it supports images suprisingly well... you would end up with big ass books (8mb a chap 27mb a volume) compared with normal books (2mb tops for 1500 pages) though.

i just use the photo viewer on my PRS-500
