Allo folks, it's been a while. These pictures are getting on a bit now so forgive them, a few little bits have changed (including the watermark!), but my Astra GTE is about to leave my hands forever, and I bought something a little more suited for my driving style.

This is my third MK1 now, I actually learned to drive in one and had it as my first car, then briefly had another when I had my MX5. When the GTE started playing up (long story), I lost the motivation to keep her on the road, and started scouring the internet for a new car. To cut a long story short, I wanted another MX5, but the scene is so saturated right now and I wanted something different. After a deal fell through an FB RX7, I spotted a white MK1 MR2 whilst on my way to do some charity work as part of our course at work. Went and had a chat with the owner on my dinner break, and picked it up a week later.

Not bad for ?700!

Plans then. There are some bodywork issues I need to address, there's minor surface rust coming through on the arches, and the previous owner has clearly hit a kerb as the front splitter is damaged. I'm in the process of ordering various parts, including some rivet-on arch extensions to accomodate some wide wheels (when I eventually decide whether I want hayashis or Compomotive MLs!). The bottom-half of the car will be painted black with a pinstripe (as a nod to the AE86 which shares the same engine). I also still have the R1 carbs laying around after the GTE project, which will sound amazing once fitted! I'm also in talks to secure a HUGE big gay wing. I'll be quite honest here and say that this is purely for looks, I'm not interested in its' aerodynamic traits at this stage (that will come later).

Hopefully once complete, the car will look not too dissimilar to an old race car. Eventually, I'll have to get serious with it as it'll double as my DD and sprint car once the season kicks off again. For now though, it's just a nice weekend hack. Had a play yesterday on some remote roads in thick fog and ice, and was quite shocked to ride above the clouds into beautiful sunshine, and see a black 911 come sideways round a corner behind me through the mist and overtake me! Awesome to see one driven in anger, but I couldn't for the life of me get anywhere near him. Things need to change!

Very nice! Are you planning on any engine swaps in the future? Not sure how close you are to Woodsport, but they've got some ideas about what to do.

Cheers guys. No concrete plans for a swap at the moment, though I am tempted to go down the 2ZZ route if I do. I don't think I'll be visiting Woodsport though, Paul does some cracking work but on IMOC we don't see eye to eye!

Awesome MR2. Love those MKI's.
