I'd guess it's just their current naming scheme.Doesn't it usually take a while before they release a LPxxx version of a car?
That's a start but it's still nearly 600 kg's more than the Sesto Elemento. Maybe they shouldn't be compared but 600 kg is a lot.The Murcielago was 75kgs (165 lbs) heavier.

We are talking about 10's of kg's more with those not 100's.It has an AWD system and a V12, they're not light components.
Yes I believe the main issue is that the body of LP700-4 isn't made of CFRP like the Sesto Elemento to keep the cost down. Compared to big GT cars like a 599 it's quite light but when compared to more expensive stuff like an Enzo or a Carrera GT it's really heavy not to mention the Zonda or the McLaren F1. I was hoping it to be closer to the Enzos.Wasn't that concept based around the Gallardo? Much smaller car.
Wait, are you seriously complaining that it's heavier than cars that it was not designed to compete with, while simultaneously admitting it is actually lighter than cars it actually does compete with?
That's where I get the impression they were seriously going to make it lighter. 1575 kg's is still heavy even if it's lighter than a 599. The 599 is a heavy, soft and spacious GT car and I don't think it's a direct competitor for the LP700-4 which seems like a more serious supercar. When talking about the future supercar, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said: "The key factor in terms of better handling and acceleration, meaning more immediate pleasure in driving, is the power-to-weight ratio. This is not so much about top speed and so the future will not be so focused on increasing the power, even because CO2 emissions do play a role for supersports cars too. That means the key is in reducing the weight."

When compared to a lot cheaper mid engined cars like the MP4-12C the LP700-4 is more than 200 kg's heavier and that sounds like a lot for the extra 100 hp it offers. Sure it has the V12 (which I approve) and Haldex (which I think is stupid) but that won't take away the fact it's still quite a heavy car.

In my opinion the mast majority of Lambo owners probably buy the car for the way it looks, because it's loud, and because it's fast when they want to open it up on the freeway. If they cared about saving 50.45654 kg of weight to go faster through corners they'd buy Ferraris. Lamborghinis belong on posters, not on tracks.
