June 1998- Spring Break 1999: 1984 Ford Tempo, 5 speed manual, navy blue. Died when Dad put too much engine it in, busted the seals, and it ended up throwing a rod.

My first year of driving was in my mother's car, a 1984 Toyota Camry, manual transmission, 5-speed (that'd be June 1997 through June 1998)

First car: 07 to may 2010: 1991 Eagle Summit ES. Got rid of it because my younger sister went to college and my parents decided they would rather keep her car than mine.
Second Car: may 2010 to march 2011: 2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara. Transmission blew up.
Third Car: ?? to ??: buying a new car this summer. This one will actually be mine, not my parents that i just used.

so... you've changed cars roughly every 6 months since early 2021.
Why, might I ask? The paperwork alone (registration, insurance, etc) would be a nightmare!

so... you've changed cars roughly every 6 months since early 2021.
Why, might I ask? The paperwork alone (registration, insurance, etc) would be a nightmare!

Things changed a lot in 2021. Before then, vehicles were held on longer. In general though it's a problem with me. I get board of vehicles too often. I also had a company car so basically from 2013 until leaving the US, I only had personal cars because I wanted to, I could've had only a company car and been fine, but I am not wired in that way.

Paperwork isn't difficult where I lived in the US. It did cost some money, yes, but the job I had meant it wasn't a big deal, though before 2022 things were about 70 dollars cheaper than they are now. It was simple to do. Have the vehicle title written that it was sold by x person and sold to y person for a certain amount of money. As long as the system names and what you wrote matched, you paid some money, the DMV or the local currency exchange office gave you new license plates (provided you're doing custom plates) on the spot. Insurance is also easy. You can your insurance office, tell them you sold a car or bought another, they either transfer the policy to your new vehicle and take the old one off, then that day new insurance cards are sent in the mail. Once the policy gets changed, even before you receive the cards, your vehicle is covered. There's also a grace period of 48hrs from purchase time that you can drive without a plate.

The Golf GTI was a lease, to try foreign cars as I've never had one before that point. Once it got returned in 2021, I bought the Fiat 500 for fun to use "all year" where the Mercury wagon was summer only car. Then when used car prices started to climb, I chose to sell it to make back what I spent on it and then some a little bit. The Audi was a purely impulse buy, and sold for what I bought it for. The Opel Astra was problematic from the start and wasn't planned to be let go so quickly, but I need reliable transport and not carrying a trunk full of water to keep the system happy, nor did I have the time or will to have a car out of commission. Job + money = reliable transportation when the job and living place aren't in the same little town or accessable by coherent public transport.

I had garage/driveway space where I lived in the US. I lived alone, had not much else outside of work, so that was an interesting thing for me to do outside of maintaining the goddamn house or staying inside fucking with computer shit or playing computer games.
