Random Thoughts....

For biology majors too?
I'll even learn to spreche ze Deutsche! :p

chilling out watching Supernatural. i have no idea who introduced me to this series but i fricking love it now.

I'm burnt after a day helping out at the track, so Kiki = Lobster.

Couldn't get my arse outta' bed this morning - and promptly scraped Dante (the Taurus) trying to park in the hotel's underground parking garage full of sharp columns and narrow parking spaces. Curses. :|

On the bright side, 'twas a wonderful time having my parents over for the week and going to a birthday dessert party tonight with some friends. Also, going to try and get pre-qualified on a home loan this week.

I imagine so, particularly if you've had something to do with (Molecular) Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biophysics etc.

The lab language would probably be English anyway. ;-)

Hmm... are you good with cocktail sauce and toast?

What fields are you looking in? You've got some sort of film degree, right?

Yep--film/political science. I'd prefer some kind of media relations/production assistant/videographer job that's mildly related to a film degree, but I've honestly been applying to anything that looks doable (and will pay enough to move out) at this point.

Unfortunately, I'm running into the same problem as Old Lace--most little secretary gigs know that I'll bolt the second something better comes along. The problem now, though, is that there's nothing better available to go to.

/second sunniest city in the country only behind Calgary (and not far behind either)... and Calgary is in the most rain-shadowed part of prairies too, Winnipeg has weird weather, man.

Dear NASA - would a dash cam be too hard? C'mon people!!!

Yeah, it would be. The only camera equipment in space is made of extra reinforced titanium because otherwise it gets broken down to the atomic level from the massive vibrations. :p

Is there a lot of video production work available in Texas? Might need to move to LA or NY for that kind of job to be more prevalent. It's tough to do, but in the end might lead to more opportunities for jobs.

My university completely screwed me, though. I can't afford to move to CA or NY. Even if I could at first, guess what comes due in a couple months?

Every now and then, if I see something out there that looks like it'd pay enough to compensate for it, I'll apply, but those seem to be few and far between. :(

You do realise that these are the very words that make the blood of any man freeze instantaneously, don't you?
Hahahaha. Well, at least student loans seem less expensive than a kid!

(not by much)

(FML)

At this point, I think I'm overcooked for cocktail sauce and too dry to go with toast. My friends have been scaring me with cancer.

Okay, so shopping and googling reviews for home mortgage lenders is depressing. It's really a game of choosing the lesser of 10 evils.

Tell me about it, I really don't want to know how much I've possibly squandered if I don't manage to get aid to get into community college, to reboot my academic career this fall :S

Not to be a dick, but in hindsight do you think attending such an expensive university was really in the cards when the entry level payment for your field is sparse to say the least, especially if you are paying for it yourself.

Nah, not a dick question at all. Honestly, it's one more people should be asking.

I didn't want to go to school in WA, and at the time, Baylor (with financial aid figured in) cost less than any of the other schools (with financial aid figured in). Plus, I started out pre-law and figured I'd be able to pay it back.

If I had it all to do over again, I'd have probably ended up at UT. (Turns out, I would've been eligible for in-state tuition much sooner than I'd originally thought.) I liked Baylor's film and poli sci departments, but by the time I realized that I'd be a much happier person playing with cameras than going to law school, I was too far along to really transfer anywhere and come out ahead money-wise. Plus, I didn't expect the massive downtime between uni and, well...is there any work out there that I'm not written off as "overqualified" for? I saw somewhere the other day that 85% of new grads get stuck living at home if they're not postponing everything with grad school. WTF? How did it get this bad?

I guess the one good thing is that people seem impressed that I graduated with a double-major from Baylor, but none of those people seem to be actually hiring. Arrgh. I don't need a lot of money to be happy, so I'd probably even be fine (as in, only slightly irritated) with the debt load if I had a job. I do, however, at least need to be able to pay for things and GTFO here.

Someone needs to speak at BU's Welcome Week and let everyone know that unless things improve jerb-wise, it's a trap.

Trust me I'm in the same boat, and it took me 2 years to get out of home. I did my Master's in a field where if I didn't want more school they would have jobs available(healthcare) or like I mostly planned though, was improving my resume for my med school application. These last two years have sucked the life out of me, living at home is fucking awful but I am a mere 1.5 months away from moving out. For me it was that having an undergraduate degree in molecular biology is pretty specific, either go for a Ph.D, M.D, or Master's, or become a lab bitch working a shit job running gels for some biotech company. No advancement without a higher degree pretty much, so I have my own regrets. The only thing I don't have hanging over my head is a big ass loan, and that in and of itself is worth alot of peace of mind. Stay strong and know that eventually your life will follow the path you want it too, even if it's not according to a plan that was set out earlier.

Yeah college can be expensive and the job outlook bleak. Hang in there and believe that everything will work out, because no one`s life works out exactly how they planned. I based my college choices (both undergrad and graduate) off of the ability for me to pay off my student debt in a reasonable amount of time. I chose Oklahoma State and Indiana over schools like Northwestern and Dartmouth because of the cost factor.

I worked at a Microbiology lab for 2 years and 1 year in a Molecular Biology lab while working on my thesis. :D
But seriously, I will take a look at my options. Never considered Germany before.

Well, good luck! If you want to work for a company rather than a research institute, there's a large amount of small to mid-size specialist companies that'll give you a lot more job satisfaction (and often better salaries and benefits as well) than large, "process-driven" (i.e. red-taped to suffocation) corporations.
