Random Thoughts (Political Edition)

Mother says the tv (a not fox news station) told her they changed immigration laws, so people without criminal records cannot be deported and instead get work visas. Because you know, that makes so much more sense then reforming system to allow those people to immigrate legally and be in the system or something. :|
For the sake of my sanity I will assume that this was misinformation until Spectre comes and posts something with 9000 sources (I didn't find one via quick googling) saying how retarded the liberals are and Obama is ruining the country.

The British pound, the EURO and the US Dollar all in a race to worthlessness - go pound!!!!

EDIT/ Oh hang on, that a race you do not want to win. ...

Wohoo! We're number one! We're number one!

I just saw a video of Rick Perry, Texas Governor and Republican presidential candidate, explain to a child that "Evolution is a theory that is out there. In Texas we teach evolution and Creationsim."

Not the pretty moniker of "intelligent design" that is used to try to make creationism more palatable and secular.

I just ordered a book, "The Republican War On Science," from Amazon.

Bachmann Warns Beware Soviet Union

(NewsCore) - COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Minnesota congresswoman and 2012 presidential candidate Michele Bachmann left some listeners scratching their heads Thursday when she said during a radio show interview that the US was in danger of being eclipsed by the Soviet Union.

Bachmann made the remark during an appearance on the Jay Sekulow radio show while campaigning in South Carolina.

"It really is about jobs and the economy," Bachmann said when asked what was on the minds of American voters she met on the trail.
"But what people recognize is that there's a fear that the United States is in an unstoppable decline. They see the rise of China, the rise of India, the rise of the Soviet Union and our loss militarily going forward."

The Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991 at the end of the Cold War.
It is not the first gaffe for Bachmann. Earlier this week she wished Elvis Presley a happy birthday on the 34th anniversary of his death.

Previous flubs include erroneously saying that film star John Wayne was from her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa, claiming that the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery, and saying that the "shot heard round the world," which started the American Revolutionary War, was fired in New Hampshire, instead of Massachusetts.

And to think that this person is a presidential frontrunner.

EDIT: No embedding, but when the fuck is John Stewart going to run for office?

Calling Warren Buffet a socialist is a little bit like calling a '65 Mustang a sports car. Yes, there are some superficial similarities, it's got a decent engine, it's got two doors, a sleek body and a sporty name. But it's like driving a buss in the bends and it's got breaks usually found on bicycles.

They are, not to put too fine a point on it, idiots.

Why is it that comedians have a better grasp of what is right and wrong with our government and society in general than most of the elected tools? Maybe it is simply because they actually are in contact with people that are not trying to buy their favor.

There are people that have commented on it, including Jon Stewart. The republicans love it, they are going to have their veiw covered, and they followers are properly misinformed.

They're in showbiz. So they're not bought by donors. Funnily enough. That's what I love about Stewart, he just takes the mickey out of everybody. Sure, a left wing slant, but he's not really a party kind of guy. He is probably closer to the dems than the gops, but that's to be expected.

There is something about the US that I don't understand. Why is it that no one has yet run amok on FAUX NOISE? Even with free speech being the first commandment, the stuff that gets airtime there is beyond any tolerable level.
There are in reality very few - if any - libel laws. That's why.

The closest thing that conservatives have to Jon Stewart is Glenn Beck, as they're both entertainers... so that tells you how deep the right-wing talent pool is.

And I wouldn't say there's a left-wing slant. A progressive slant would be more appropriate; he's definitely taken Obama to task several times for failing to just get shit done without "compromising" on everything he does.

Yeah, but there is a left wing bias. It's a misunderstanding that moderate left wingers don't critisise other left-wingers. In extremist left wing papers, it's a different matter, but those are extremists. A left winger will go after other left wingers, you know.

I wasn't pro NDP, infact, I was quite against them and most of their policies, but their is no denying that Jack Layton was a good political leader and did a lot for the Federal New Democrats.

Family, friends and colleagues are remembering NDP Leader Jack Layton as news starts to sink in that the politician known for his warmth and personality has died.

Friends and political foes alike praised Layton on Monday for his warmth, optimism and respect for opponents.

People who squared off politically against Layton, including former prime ministers Jean Chr?tien and Paul Martin, as well as Prime Minister Stephen Harper and interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae, all spoke warmly about the NDP leader's commitment to Canadians.

Layton, who led Canada's Official Opposition, died early Monday morning at his Toronto home after a battle with cancer. He was 61.

Layton's wife, Olivia Chow, and his children, Sarah and Michael Layton, issued a statement announcing his death.

"We deeply regret to inform you that the Honourable Jack Layton, leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada, passed away at 4:45 am today, Monday August 22. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and loved ones," the statement read.
