British racecar designer Gordon Murray said his automotive company will build a limited-edition V-12 supercar for delivery in 2022.

The car will cost 2 million pounds ($2.54 million) before taxes

The T.50 will borrow the F1's three-seat layout with the driver in the center

The car's 650-hp naturally aspirated V-12 engine will be made by UK powertrain specialist Cosworth and will rev to 12,100 rpm. The engine will not be electrified.

The car is based around a carbon-fiber 'tub' and reportedly weighs just 980 kg.

I read about this on TG at lunchtime. Impressed at the fact they are staying true to Murray's philosophy and catering for purists rather than jumping onto the willy-waving stats bandwagon.

I appreciate that, but it looks a bit... plain.

YES
This gets all of my yes precisely because of that. It's aimed at being an experience, not numbers in a performance chart (which it will, because GODDAMIT those specs are EPIC).

I agree, but I see that as a plus.
More "this thing is pure function" and less "I wanna turn heads at cars and coffee".

Center driver position 3 seater.
Naturally aspirated V12.
RWD.
Proper manual gearbox.
Lightweight.
And not a bad looker from the renders...

Agreed but in my advancing years I subscribe to the James May School of Super/Hypercars. It's about poise and finesse over shouting and lairy.

"unnamend formula one team"

how about they get the help from .... McLaren's formula one team for the aero work? :D

i don't see how this will stand a chance against the valkyrie?

it only weighs 200kg less, but has half the power? and it might have fans...but the underbody of the valkyrie is no joke either!
(granted the valkyrie makes true on the proposed stats)

but then again...why would they need to be compared against eachother...the more the merrier!

i think it looks a bit boring though...but it sure would've turned heads in the 90s!

You're completely missing the point here.
It is not aimed at "standing a chance" against any of the other hypercars. It's supposed to be a better experience, not faster. Gordon Murray has been saying this since the beggining and it's comments like yours that make me glad he took that route.
Since the Veyron, the bar has been raised and everything has 700hp. Where are you using that? Not even most racetracks have enough room for that, and now it's just a dick-measuring contest. I bet he could have given it turbos and a hybrid system (probably a CVT), a bonkers aero system and generate over 1000hp, sub 3-second 0-60 and pull 2Gs while cornering and be just another by-the-numbers hypercar.
Give me this old-school supercar anyday.

i think he's just asking 2020 money for a 90s car...

and you should go test a 700bhp electrified car, and then come back saying you don't care about it, you rather wait for a V12 to rev up before the power comes...i don't think so!

Considering the original McLaren F1 is selling at auction for 15 million USD, he is right on the money (heh).
And excuse me, but this thing will be 980kg.

UNDER A FUCKING TON.

Lighter than a Miata.

650hp is plenty and I REALLY doubt you will need to wait for the V12 to rev up.

But then again, we're arguing and speculating on a car that is not even out yet and you clearly are not his target demographic.

I know you tend not to look at what's on the mantlepiece when stoking the fire so that's probably a good thing. If I had to drop the coin on what this thing will cost I'd never look over my shoulder while unlocking my front door.

Minger? No.
Marriage material? Maybe a One Night Stand but she'd have to be amazing to merit a call back.

After watching Harry's video, it is easily marriage material

All of my yes. The technology, the attention to detail and the philosophy behind it checks all my boxes.

It's the McLaren F1 he wanted to build in 1992 but couldn't.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

This "because I can and because I want to" attitude is awesome, even if Murray sometimes slips into being a bit arrogant. :D
Also, lightweight, N/A, manual. All of my yes.
He is arrogant at times, but I can't blame him for it when he delivers this level of engineering and technological achievement.

I like what Harris said to it: It makes every other supercar look a bit ridiculos - and at its price tag, it is set very high but also just a fraction of an original F1, so it's actually a bargain.

What. A. Car. Never thought I'd live to see an engine like this on the streets.
