top gear always say brake horsepower yet magazines,internet websites etc.. use the term horsepower. Are they both right? what do they mean? what does the word brake actually mean?

eg; An SL65 AMG, as you all know, has 612BHP in Euro measurement. In U.S. measurement, thats only 604HP though...

You'd be surprised actually.
