(Just for everyone's sake lets consider a Top Gear Episode.)

Just how do you guys that rip the episode, do it? How do you guys get the quality that is in a 700MB episode? What do you guys compress it with to get it to be that way? Is there some magic program that just select 700MB and click Go! and the thing just does its job because just like Top Gear, stuff like The Sopranos and Prison Break is all in 700MB with same quailty?

I record stuff on my capture card and the stuff comes out so big and when I compress it I lose the quality. I could use a dozen programs and compress it and it probably could never equal the stuff you guys put out.

BTW, I have no idea where this belongs. I would assume it might go in Off-Topic, maybe, but IDK? Feel free to move it.

Thanks,

I think this would belong more in the technology forum, as it deals with video compression. That said, you ought to try capturing in a lossless form (huffyuv, raw, whatever) first, and then encoding using XviD or h264 or the like. Check out sites like doom9.org for video encoding information.
