Best Interiors

God damn! That Maserati has the greatest interior ever. Extremely simple, yet elegant, does anyone know how to make an interior like that anymore?

Pics of S-Class interior at night-ish:

So there are LEDs under the wood trim?

Wow, that's pretty awesome. Must be really soothing at night (which will put you to sleep, but that's ok because the S-Class can drive itself :p).

^ no those are just lights shining ON the wood, its not coming from underneath

I'm with BBoy, just light reflecting off the wood. That is unless 3Colin can show some more definitive pics.

Personally, while I like having computer screens in cars, the sanctity of having a mechanical speedo and a rev counter permanently on your dash must not be compromised.

The Audi A8 is the one with the better night interior. One, for the simple fact that the LEDs are red which preserves night vision. I hate blue or green gauges. No class.

Also the A8 uses the new WHITE LEDs in the footwell and for the map lights, that are normally red in the A4 and A6.

Refer to the pic a few pages back, and visit the website http://www.thhe.dk/Audi_A8_3,7.htm

No, it's underneath the wood trim. "Ambient Light", that. The only problem is some of the effect of the digital speedo is lost, since it's more obvious now it's a computer screen.
Yep its basically a thin light-tube under the wood. And your right, the only real drawback of the S-Class at night is that it becomes obvious that its a computer screen and not a real speedo.

The A8 lighting is very nice also :) But the Mercs absence of red-lights on the dash and the usage of only one colour make it better on the eye for me. If your worried about night-vision, you can dim the lights more via the menu in the computer or better yet, make use of that night-vision screen.

Here are more pics...sorry about them being big.

You know I always resize mate. I just didn't resize because with these proportions, it made the images too small to enjoy and you couldn't read the text ;)

HA! I WAS RIGHT!!! :tease:

By the way, is the Night View display really that sharp, or is that just Top Gear mucking around? Because if it is, that's astounding.

I am suprised nobody has posted this yet.

So simple and classy. None of that LED or LCD crap, just leather and metal.

The screen in the Merc is nice, but I think that and the porsche are too busy with that aluminum trim and buttons (light switch, console). Ya it makes for a nice glow at night when the LED map lights shine on it, but for tactile response I prefer the new soft touch plastics in the Audi.

With all the electrical problems in German cars, you might fry yourself touching a metal button.

Plastics at that top end level are cheap and its good to see that Porsche and Mercedes have made the switch to aluminum buttons.

The plastics are just fine in the Audi because they are like Mercedes plastics in that they feel expensive. But in terms of looks, the plastics aren't as nice anymore and are aging and as a result, Mercedes has now abandoned the plastics for something more up-market and Audi will follow-suit I'd imagine.

On a side note - Maserati use CHEAP CHEAP NASTY plastics in their beutifull Quartroporte and it totally lets the car down

Dunno...good question though.

What does the interior of the 7-Series look like at night? Just wondering for comparative purposes...

I'm with you.

Mainly based on how often my computer crashes, and how often my clock crashes.
