I'm really intrigued to see how well this goes - hats off to Mitsubishi for giving it a go though

If it goes TOO well, the other companies will want it banned from rally racing...so no development :x
hopefully!

Hang on, the pic is of a normal Evo8. Here's the MIEV:

Japanese Press Release

The electric evo will be making about 200kW total, almost the same as the petrol powered version but with a LOT more torque. Each of those four motors is rated at 518Nm!

I'm sure they've considered all those things

exactly, theyre not just making an electric car and throwing it out there... well, hopefully anyway!

(i for one hope it succeeds)

awesome..

screw the prius.. this is how you make electric cars!

anyone got any more details on the motor setups.. in english?

the only problem i can see with it, is the rotational mass of the tire.. it's going to slow steering response a bit due to gyro effects.. and the suspension will be a bit slow due to the engine on the hub.. however.. with approx 1200lb-ft of torque.. WOW..

this is gonna HAUL.. 0-60 should be VERY fast.

can't wait to see some videos of it racing.

They probably will want it banned, but they didn't ban Audi when they started making the Quattros in the 80s as everyone started making their own version. Although this is a little more of a leap from the current rule set by FIA we currently have a "prototype" class for the Australian Rally Championship so I'm not sure how this would go. Interesting concept though, and as much as I would miss the distinct sound of each engine I'm for it.

I want to see it in action.
