The new legend

Yes ... We know that there are pictures circulating of an uncamouflaged 2008 Jeep Cherokee, but those were shot at street level and may have overlooked one of the most interesting features that will be offered on the new Cherokee: A huge retractable fabric roof! When we first started inquiring about the upcoming Cherokee, our sources seemed to switch subjects and asked us if we saw the ASC Cosmos Hummer H3 that was shown at the 2006 NAIAS. With that in mind, our focus on a camouflaged Cherokee was from above ? paying special attention to the roof. And sure enough, the roof had unique camouflage ? covering what apparently is Jeep?s biggest secret: a fabric roof system, which will put the Cherokee in a class of its own.

Although we can?t confirm the designer and supplier of the retractable roof, there is good indication that ASC is involved in the development. In addition to exclusive pictures from above, we also managed to grab an interior picture as the engineers were moving about, unaware that we were just a few metres away with a loaded camera. The new Cherokee, internally know by the code name KK, will start going down the production line in July of 2007. There will be two V6 offerings: a 3.7-liter as the base engine, and an optional 4.0-liter powerplant, with a new diesel engine available in late in the 2008 model year, or possibly for 2009.

The 2008 Cherokee will also have the Load ?n' Go sliding cargo system that debuted in the Dodge Nitro. Also expected are such features as stability control and hill decent assist. Another major change is the spare tire moving from the tailgate to under the vehicle. It will still have a 2 piece tailgate however, with the glass being able to lift up independently from the gate. And, although we couldn?t get a picture, we saw that the tailgate also lifts up now, instead of to the side. And although some may think of the new Cherokee as Jeep?s version of the Nitro (or vice-versa), the Cherokee will prove to be more off-road capable than the Nitro, giving it rights to the Jeep nameplate.
I don't mind the more ol' school front end but the rear screems "just another piece of SUV crap from America" to me.

Wow they're really going out a ledge with that brave styling :p

It's generic SUV from any country, not just America.

I'm still waiting for the Jeep Liberty Special Renegade Freedom Patriot America, Fuck Yeah! Edition.

^ i assume this is the Cherokee and not the Grand Cherokee
it looks like a shortened Commander

A pile of dog sick looks better on the road, and it pollutes less as well. Seriously hard car to like, this is.

Lol, I wouldn't bring pollution into this. When you stop driving altogether perhaps.......

Remeber it is an easy auto to like if one doesn't share your opinions.

Since we're on the topic of Jeeps, has anyone seen the new commander? It looks really cool, now that the Mercedes G-wagon is gone, I think that has to be the cool car to replace it

Not bad, has a little Dodge Nitro in the styling, from what I can tell.

Could be a hell of a lot worse.

Still talking about the Jeeps.

Commander is pretty cool but it'll never beat a G-wagon IMO, let alone the '55 AMG.

BTW the G-Class is still in (low) production.

"The new legend"...

:lmao: HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa !! !! :lmao:

*My honest opinion. End of discussion jetsetter.

The roof-thingy sounds nice, tho.

This thing? to replace the Gwagen?....ya serious?

/it looks like a pig.

^ Photoshopped backgrounds FTW! I'm not one to usually point this out, but they're not even trying.

And yeah, the stacked headlights are horrid, though the rest isn't as bad. Cool name, though. "Commander."

The Commander looks ok, if you are far enough away. My dad and I spent and hour looking at one parked outside a Costco on display (we had a blow-out and were waiting for a replacement tire to be fitted) We went over every inch of that car to pass the time and came to the conclusion that, as turds with wheels go it was among the best. Even the chrome is fake, nothing more than metalicized plastic, and that's on the outside!

For off road capability this thing is an absolute joke. As British_Rover said the approach and departure angles are not much better than some sedans and it does not have the clearance or wheel travel needed for most trails.

Trail Rated my ass.

^well... your american yellow parking lights spoils everything, the Australian one where the entire front is white looks wayy better... for Aussies, that Jump looks so good in the Jeep TV ad :D

Jeep is going downhill somewhat. You can buy every Jeep model in 2WD. They even have a couple FWD Jeeps. wtf? At least Hummers all come with 4WD standard.
