Other Random Car Sightings [Photo Required]

It's always like that... I went to Dubai and the nicest car I saw there was the one that took me to my hotel. I also went to LA and didn't spot much. I dunno why, but car spotting abroad seems to be a bit of a jinx.

I have seen a few interesting things in the past 2 days, was never fast enough to get a pic but i saw a new 335 coupe, Gallardo SE, 2 Z4 M's a shit load of Range Rover Sports and i think the best thing that i saw today was a 2007 BMW X5 4.8 on the road with no plates on it. i asked around and found out that there is an unvaling of the X5 this friday and the one i saw on the road is part of that.

What's a 335 coupe?

Edit: BMW probably, nevermind.

I always wonder what kind of person has time to work enough to buy a car like this and then browse and post on car forum. I just can't picture a successful adult posting actively on a forum... I guess it has more to do with what generation you're a part of and not how much money you have.

Oh, and Viper, you'd be surprised at the Oriental-owned car situation here. They buy some specific cars... they don't seem to buy a lot of cheaper cars and not a lot of more expensive cars. Most of their cars are in the $50,000 to $150,000 range... no more, no less. Well, a lot of them have Civics and stuff, but rarely do you see an Oriental guy or girl driving an exotic. I guess they're just smart with how they spend their money... not too cheap and not too expensive.

I'm not too sure...Asians in Vancouver (time for the sweeping generalizations) seem to be like the Russians here; they tend to have a decent amount of money, but its all about showing it off. They will buy a huge house, and a BMW or Benz, and have little left over. All about the American glitz. Read an article in the Globe a while back; all those ostentacious houses with huge Chinese families; enough money for the house, but the whole extended family had to live there to afford it. Like you said, I don't see too many asians driving Ferrari's, Lambo's, or even the high-end Mercs and BMW's.

I disagree with both of you.

I see more Asians driving exotics and expensive cars (in Vancouver) than other type of people.

I would say it really depends on what area in Vancouver. For example, in the area I lived in (I'll be back in a few weeks btw :D ) there were tons of Mercedes S Class, BMW 7 Series, Jaguar XJR's, lots of M3's, and few M5's and Porsches, and occasionally a few Ferrari's. However, about a few blocks away, there are tons of Rolls Royce Silver Shadows, and quite a few old Ferrari's. Just a couple of blocks away and there's a huge difference already. And the area I live in is dominated by Asians of Chinese descent, and so is the other area a few blocks away (if you're dying to know where it's Shaughnessy). I can't say that Mercedes S Class and BMW 7 Series are mainly driven by Asians in Vancouver. So it all boils down to where you live, as some areas have tons of nice cars driven by Asians, and other areas with a heavy population of another ethnic group. I guess where Salar is seeing all those nice cars might be an area with lots of Asians, and other folks who are seeing nice cars are in areas where there it's more ethnically diverse.

When were you here? spotting really depends on the weather.

In one sunny day downtown I saw 4 Lambos and at least 6 Ferraris.

Middle of the summer, nice day, on my way to go ski on the glacier at Blackcomb.

You went skiing in the middle of summer? Even Vancouver doesn't provide that.

Whistler is extremely close to Vancouver... it's like an annexation almost.

I actually think its the other way around, Asians love saving money and keeping alot of cash in hand and they love their properties (whether investment or holiday homes). No racism intended but when you compare Asians to Caucasians, Caucasians are the ones about showing off (I've noticed not by their cars and houses, but by their lifestyles (Expensive wines, dinners, clothing.... etc) but Asian's like showing off with something more valuable or more financially sensible (ie. Houses), the reason why they stick to 50-150k price range is because they just want a car that is not embarrassing, presentable to their peers and will still get parked at the front of the hotel (Hence the 5,7,S,E Mercedes and BMW's)

Ok guys, back to the spotting ;)

No I own Park Royal... I've spent half my life savings there over the years. Okay, bad joke.

The rims on the Vanquish are bad. Were they as bad on the car in person?

If you concentrate on the wheels long enough, you'd swear you were looking at a Supra.

I'm not a chrome fan at all, but I thought those were pretty good. Pretty simple design, and not much bling-ish.

I feel that Lamborghini has gone backwards with the LP640 wheel design.

It's not very good looking..

I couldn't disagree more... I used to think the Murcielago looked ancient (even when it had just come out) but now it looks more modern with the little tweaks.

Yeah, I think it looks very modern.

What's this? Maserati GrandSport GT? Saw it right at the front door of show room.

What a weird car. It's front half is a Ferrari and it's back half is a Maserati!
