In Florida, Angel Nieves Diaz, 55, was put to death Wednesday for murdering the manager of a Miami topless bar during a holdup in 1979.

Medical examiner Dr. William Hamilton said Diaz's execution took 34 minutes ? twice as long as usual ? and required a rare second dose of lethal chemicals because the needles were inserted clear through his veins and into the flesh in his arms. The chemicals are supposed to go into the veins.

death penalty doesn?t go along with the claim of being a civilized nation..

That, and it's not an effective deterrent.
It's stupid, cruel and often carried out by complete morons, hence what happened in florida. If that was a medical procedure, the doctors would have been slapped with a malpractice suit five minutes in.

What did these people do to deserve to die? Oh yeah, they killed people and sh*t.

A lot of people forget that our current legal system isn't based on being a deterrent or rehabilitating people, it's based on crime and punishment.

I think that the death penalty should be reserved for the most brutal of murderers and rapists, and carried out quickly and efficiently. a bullet to the head would suffice, and dare I think be a lot more humane than a long drawn out injection, gassing or electrocution.

I feel that our penal systems is pretty messed up when gangs are allowed to thrive within prison walls and even control events outside. IMO when you kill someone in prison or incite a riot you should just be shot, no new sentence of sitting around for the rest of your life on the government dime while running your drug empire and ordering murders.

I also think we should try and rehab more people, and not allow anyone to view your criminal record once you have served your sentence. a good amount of repeat offenders were basically backed into a wall by not being able to get a job after leaving prison, I mean, not even mcdonalds hires felons. Some states have done this with good results.

I'm strongly against death penalty, however some cases may require it, e.g. second offence of a pedophile.

And the way death penalty is handled in US is a complete mess.

The guillotine was quite efficient but too gore, lethal injection is cleaner but they should give a strong shot of drug before.

I agree on this, otherwise it's almost like having a lifetime sentence and incite them to be a criminal 'cause it's easier than getting a decent job.

Anesthetic - Sodium thiopental, which has the trademark name Pentothal, puts the inmate into a deep sleep. This drug is a barbiturate that induces general anesthesia when administered intravenously. It can reach effective clinical concentrations in the brain within 30 seconds, according to an Amnesty International report. For surgical operations, patients are given a dose of 100 to 150 milligrams over a period of 10 to 15 seconds. For executions, as many as 5 grams (5,000 mg) of Pentothal may be administered. This in itself is a lethal dose. It's believed by some that after this anesthetic is delivered, the inmate doesn't feel anything.

* Saline solution flushes the intravenous line.

* Paralyzing agent - Pancuronium bromide, also known as Pavulon, is a muscle relaxant that is given in a dose that stops breathing by paralyzing the diaphragm and lungs. Conventionally, this drug takes effect in one to three minutes after being injected. In many states, this drug is given in doses of up to 100 milligrams, a much higher dose than is used in surgical operations -- usually 40 to 100 micrograms per one kilogram of body weight. Other chemicals that can be used as a paralyzing agent include tubocurarine chloride and succinylcholine chloride.

* Saline solution flushes the intravenous line.

* Toxic agent (not used by all states) - Potassium chloride is given at a lethal dose in order to interrupt the electrical signaling essential to heart functions. This induces cardiac arrest.

Within a minute or two after the last drug is administered, a physician or medical technician declares the inmate dead. The amount of time between when the prisoner leaves the holding cell and when he or she is declared dead may be just 30 minutes. Death usually occurs anywhere from five to 18 minutes after the execution order is given. After the execution, the body is placed in a body bag and taken to medical examiner, who may perform an autopsy. It is then either claimed by the inmate's family or interred by the state.

So ure saying employers dont have a right to see who they're employing?

if they have really paid thier debt to society then no. I think 3 or 4 states have already done this. criminals who get out and try to start over soon find that they can't find a job anywhere and so fall back into thier old habits, I've seen this first hand, it's pretty sad. If these people have truly paid thier debt to society, then the only time thier past should come up is if they repeat thier offense, and if they came out with basically a clean slate, they have no excuse to fall back into old habits. if they havn't paid thier debt or they are a danger to others they shouldn't be let out in the first place.

This decision is quite unfortunate. I have always considered the death penalty as more of a service for the family of the person that was murdered. Final justice so that they can live at peace once more.

And please don't make me go into the shortcomings of the German legal system D-Fence. We could be here all day.

Yeah? I'd love to hear that.

Great comeback, too. ^^

He called the US an uncivilized country because a few states have the death penalty. But you may be interested to know that Japan also has the death penalty but I am getting off topic.

A few problems I have with the German legal system include the fact that the "Federal Constitutional Court" does not hear final appeals unlike the United States Supreme Court. The second problem I have with the German legal system are laws and proposals like this:

And you get the point. A bit too socialistic for my tastes. And then there are the firearm laws but that really applies to all of Europe. Seems that they don't trust themselves to own firearms. A pity... I could go on but I won't. Many in the US do believe in capitol punishment, it crosses demographic and political lines. I don't believe that the death penalty will be abolished in Florida or California.

I called EVERY country with death penalty uncivilized, not only the USA.

So what? I think it?s great that 90% of the Nazi Homepages in the Internet are hosted in the great USA........does your freedom of speech include like stories about raping little girls? no? how harsh.

Bullshit. It?s a law design that will never come into action. See: http://forums.finalgear.com/showthread.php?t=15469

No, we just think not everyone NEEDS a gun, and that is the reason why we ban them and only allow people who need them to get one. As long as not every moron runs around with a gun you don?t need guns to defend yourself. See the irony?

We just commit suicide ;)

I never said our legal system was any better, it?s not hard enough, rapists get out after 15 years and so on, but I said that KILLING those people is uncivilized, put them in jail for the rest of their life isn?t. And in my opinion being locked away for 50 years or more is more punishment than 5 years and being killed....and one big thing is important: When a case is rolled up after some years and the murder is innocent, you can?t release him out of prison after you killed him..

It?s funny to see how you get personally offended and start bitching around when someone criticizes your legal system, military actions etc etc......perhaps this is why the USA aren?t that popular.....

I've got two problems with the death penalty. The first is that lethal injection is too humane. Someone who beats a man to death with a golf club gets peacefully put to sleep for punishment. Come on now. More brutal punishment might make some people think twice before committing a crime.

Secondly, I think its an easy way out for the criminals. The family and friends of a murder victim have to suffer the loss for the rest of their lives. Once the killer is dead, his suffering is over. If someone killed a member of my family, I'd much rather have him be miserable for the rest of his life. Throw him in solitary confinement in a dark cell or something.

You should not have to need a gun to be able to own a gun. A large percentage of people do not own a gun because they are scared of getting murdered, they own one because they can. You don't need a reason because it is your right.

Like invading & destroying other countries to ensure freedom?

yeah, because you know, it was the American people who did that one:rolleyes:

hooray for not knowing shit.

besides, Germans are probably the last people on earth who should be talking about bad governments. There's a good reason that many of the european immigrants came from germany, including my family.

I just took a course about the history of Germany, from 1850-1945. Very interesting...

It actually is.......how deep did you go into it? I had 2 years @ school about the history from ~1840-1930 only.....shows what happens when a manipulative maniac manipulates the people to look for outer threats to forget inner problems.....I see parallels to some Texan.

Well, Bismarck loved control...until his ass was thrown out by William II. WWI was a huge mistake for Germany - the all or nothing policy led to their defeat. The Versailles Treaty caused major inflation and people blamed the Weimar Republic for the loss of WWI. Civil war didn't help much either, people started looking for answers. In comes Hitler, who uses negative campaigning and propaganda to help support his causes. Hitler's biggest mistake was to invade Russia which led to their defeat in WWII.

Oh, and George W. Bush was actually born in Connecticut. He did live in Texas for most of his life, however.
