My Lada 2107 Racecar Project

I was looking at that synchronizer, its cool, but its no good for me (well, actually its to good for me :) ), but many people say that this Eurocarb synchronizer is good, so lets hope the best :)

Never heard about DCNF-s. Only DRLA-s. They are the same type as DCNF (vertical, and not horisontal like DCOE).

Aww that book's first pic looks nice! :) . I wanted to buy Weber DCOE-s (40mm) but there isnt any in good condition :( . And the new is... Well... quite expensive :( . But there are many many dellorto's in quite good condition, so I bought that :)

Dellorto is harder to set up... I calculated the jets size, drilled them for the right size, tomorrow I will see how it goes with these jets :)

So my synchroniser finaly got here from the UK, and today I'v set it up, plus had a few tests with different jets, and damn it goes well now :D . Next saturday will be a slalom race near, I'm thinking that I might go and race :) I need to learn driving and this is a good chance. Its going to be on an airfield, so its safe. Well... Maybe.. :)

Btw, this happend today:

Its the "strapdisc" (I hope its called like that :) ) Well I thought that something worse happend, thank god only this :) . Its already fixed, and the car is running again :) .

Any photos with the finished wheels on yet?

Awesome project, can't wait to see it complete.

Nah. I think I'm gonna sell those wheels, I need some money :) . Got another type of wheels (steel, from E21 BMW) those look nicely, I also got a set of 15*7 inch as well. I'm planing on puting slicks on them, thus I need money :D .

So! The first drifting practise was this weekend, and it was very good!! Well, I'm not a pro yet :D But it was a good start. I got my first battle scar's to  .

I banged a tyrewall with round 60-70 km/h :D Well, nothing special, already hammered the big bend, and primed it so it looks better, but well, this car isnt for the looks :) .

The tyres didnt have a good day:

Well. It was a good day, now i know what i should modify on the car.

And here is a VERY short video of me, next time there will be more :)

nice one, dude. Your initiation to the drift is reasonably smooth and you maintain angle pretty well. What technique are you using (e-brake? feint? power oversteer?)?

http://img125.imageshack.**/img125/4233/img3734me0.jpg

you can sell em as being slicks :p

Well, I use mostly use clutch kick, cos im a beginner, but I started using brake, and feint as well, but still learning of course :) . Ebrake, only when it understeers.

Yet I'm afraid from higher speeds, cos I'm not used to it. But thats why I practise :)

Yeah, its satisfying to drive the car, and tune it up to perfection :) . The engine is finally good, tuned up the carbs 90% perfectly, but the programable ignition is not in the car yet. So now its time for the suspension to be set up well.

There is no stabilizer at the rear, only at the front, thats why it is rolling so badly. Plus I have stiffer shockabsorbers, but factory springs, so I need a bit harder. I'm currently working on a stabilizer, from another car, trying to fit it somehow (welding rules  )

I need my chamber/caster/toe out set up, cos on the left I got positiv chamber... So its no good :) .

Settings that I will start with:
Chamber: -1.5?
Caster: 6? (only 6, cos there is no powersteering!)
Toe out: 30'

The rear of course is not adjustable :) . Well, we will see...

Hope I can make a longer video saturday. We have a shopping center nearby, and it closes @ 10 pm. Around 1 am, there is nobody on the road, and the visibility of the road is very good, so its safe. Many drifters practise here. It has two 2nd gear S turns, and two 2nd gear 90? turns, its wide, so its ideal for beginners. It has a very long left turn, with can only made in 3rd gear, thats quite scary for me (yet) :)

Update coming soon... :)

Minor update, finaly got my steering wheel, woohoo :) I need to buy gloves.

And just to show how deep it is:

My seeting position is perfect I think. Lets hope :)

awesome wheel!

Haha thanks ;) .

Another small but important thing. Hydraulic handbrake. I wanted one badly, but they costed around 100-200 euro witch is LOT considering that its a simple pumpcylinder...
This costs 177 euro, and there is no mastercylinder on it!:

So I bought a skoda clutch cylinder, welded some metal scrap together, and took the grip of my bike, and voila, for 10 euro

Yeah I know, its not to nice, but it will work perfectly. Its easy to operate, I can put it near to me, so its gonna be very usefull! I simply need to cut the rear brake line, and insert the handbrake there. But while i'm doing that, I'm gonna put a brake balancer to. That is very expensive as well, so I'm gonna make one from the Lada's own balancer. Lada's have a very cool brake adjuster, if you brake, the car leans to the front, and thus, the balancer adjusts the rear brake power. Its very simple, but very effective. But I have much harder springs/dampers, so its not working well now. All I need to do is make it hand-adjustable, witch is (thank god) easy :) .

Oh and on 24th, it is going to be a race...

That hand brake is awesome. I love people who have that kind of ingenuity and don't think you have buy everything to do something ( a problem a lot of people my age seem to have here in the states).

If you don't mind me being a bit rude here, would you be willing to give a cost rundown of how much this project has cost so far?

Oh and BTW, your sig is so damn true. The first time I pushed my DD to far and it under-steered it scared the crap out of me, but was totally relaxed when the rear end came around on my brothers 318 the first time I drove it in the rain.

Haha thanks ;) .

looks at the handbrake....
looks at the mounting bracket you made...

if you can make a bracket like that, couldn't you just make that lever yourselve as well? doesn't look very complicated, especially for the 170? you paid for it :?

PS: that mounting bracket isn't alluminium, right? if it is, i'll hate you for being able to weld aluminium on such a short time

Err... I think the 170? one was an example of an overpriced lever. And the next picture is self-made one for 10?.

^ Yep. I wouldnt give 170 euro for that :D . The clutchcylinder costed 10 euro, the metal scrap was free from my garage :) . And nah, its not aluminium, but I can weld aluminium as well, but only with oxigen/gas welder (dunno whats is name :) ) We learned gaswelding in school :) . Its very VERY hard to weld aluminium. With CO I can do nice things now on metal, but aluminium is very hard to do nicely. My teacher showed me how he can weld and daaamn... He is pro :)

thedguy: Thanks! Well, I dunno really, Untill it was rolling, moving, etc, it costed around 2500-3000 euro, with every little piece. Since that, only minor things, like this handbrake, etc, so not to big money. The biggest money now, is going to be the new flywheel ~ 100 euro... But I can sell my oldone for 80euro, so its not to bad. I hope that the car will be ready for the weekend, cos I want to race soo badly :)

That's a wonderful bit of what would be called "bush engineering" here :p

The welder you're using sounds like an Oxy-Acetylene. I've had a go at an arc-welder, I managed what my father dubbed "bird shit" and then blasted a hole in the bar I was practicing on :p

When's the race/drift outing for the car?

Long time no updates, so here is a little one :) . Saturday I was on a drift practice, and it started horribly... My clutch cylinder started to leek, so my clutch only worked when i pumped it up... Right when I was about to go on the track, my gasbowden teared... But after these problems, the practise it self was awesome! The track was made out of cones, so there was no "fearfactor", and after 2 laps, I started to get brave :) . The first corner needed around 90km/h, and a little handbrake  . It was awesome. Unfortunatly, the track was to big for my 110 hp, so couldnt connect the whole track, but it was fun.

I have very "light" setup on the cars suspension now, (-0.9? chamber, -0,3? toe in) I think I'm going to set it for -1.5? chamber. And I would need much more stiffer springs, if I would only drift with it. But I'm planning to start with amateur rallying. So the springs are staying, and I'm getting a rollcage.

Thats if for now, hopefully I'm going to post a short clip (I have incam footage), but I havent got the tape right now, so lets hope the best :)

Cheers
