one more from the Olympic Peninsula rain forest area:

hand held.. shutter priority, 1/8th second

 Wow. Anything 1/100 second or less for me is all blurry. Have to carry around two tripods for that reason.

Again,

A general rule of thumb is that the slowest shutter speed you'd want to use is 1/(focal length). Obviously there's a lot of variation depending on how steady you can hold a camera, but it's a pretty good indicator.

yup... it's a good rule too, though you can stretch it a bit more easily with a lens that has a constant aperture

I can shoot 18mm as low as 1/5th or so with no noticeable shaking.. and 200mm at around 1/130th - 1/150th or so. I've done it as low as 1/30th at night... can see some shaking but it looked pretty good.

another from the trip around the Olympic Peninsula last weekend. This is at the ocean outside the rain forest region... so there's a super heavy mist/fog everywhere you go.

I didn't take the time to take the exposures correctly in order to do a pano.. oh well :)

Yep, reverse macro. You have absolutely no DOF... that shot was taken at F29. 17-50mm at 50mm, with a reversed, handheld 50mm as the second lens.

I like the idea of that shot Alok, but the lighting could be a bit stronger, and the whit balance is way off.

hmm actually, it might look better that way if the lighting was stronger, but that particular look was what i was going for, we took the snap under a very red-orangey sodium vapour lamp at a higher than normal shutter speed
