Everyone fawned over the Jeep JT Concept when they saw what it could actually do. Jeep fanboys and casual admirers alike all recognized that such a small, light-duty pickup would do wonders for the Jeep brand, and if these spy photos from KGP Photography are anything to by, then it appears Jeep is listening. Read the report from KGP below and check out the gallery of high-res spy shots that confirms Jeep is at least developing a Wrangler-based pickup.

We got up-close and personal with what appears to be a mule for a Wrangler-based pickup truck, right along the lines of the Jeep JT truck concept. The rear doors of a four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited have been welded shut, and the black composite roof structure has been extended forward to the B-pillar. The roll-down side glass has been replaced with a solid window.

UPDATE: Mike Levine at Pickuptruck.com speculates that Jeep may be going after the postal fleet market. These mules are right-hand drive (to reach mailboxes perhaps?) and leaf springs (to handle the heavy load of mail maybe?)

I guess the postal idea is possible but this really looks like a pickup prototype/mule.

Leafsprings!!!1! Ha I said it before you American car bashers had a chance to. :p

Now that we have that out of the way, I think this version might be slightly less useless than the 4 door Wrangler. There are only two things I've found that make me feel claustrophobic: closed face motorcycle helmets and getting into a 4 door Wrangler's backseat. But I could see this version working pretty nicely as a small delivery vehicle or work truck. Although the onboard entertainment system seems a little bargain basement (the boom box in the last two pics  )

It would be cool. The Sema concept was kick ass.

I want to know what suspension will go to production. If it's a truck they might go with the heavy leaf-springs as opposed to the coil-overs on the Rubicon. I kind of expected them to just make a Wrangler with a new shell on it.

I'm sure one of the first things that will happen is the hardcore Jeep guys will start trading parts back and forth.

EDIT: about the leaf springs. For a truck the leaf springs make sense. Those look like some heavy duty jobs - probably off a Dodge truck, and are designed for abuse. The ones on my XJ were light duty (even though I had a heavy duty axel - go figure). For hauling stuff leaf springs are the way to go. For serious wheeling, I prefer coil-over suspensions because they tend to get more flexibility, however I have seen some leaf setups that blow my mind.

God, I hope so! It's possibly the only car that looks good, even badass, in diarrhea beige. :woot:

Finally some cool vehicles coming out of the Jeep plant again....

I was really sad when they got rid of the Cherokee, especially when it was replaced by the Liberty. The new bigger Wrangler and this new possible concept would be way cool. I would so consider buying a Jeep truck that was around the size of a Toyota Tacoma.

Maybe iut's just me but in black and with those rims, I think it totally kicks ass. Even if it is just a pre production test mule :)

That would look seriously cool if it ends up like that concept!

Damn!
Ever since I saw the JT concept, I've wished that they would put it into production.... and GOD I hope they do! This truck looks amazing!

It appears as though the mystery of the Jeep truck, captured earlier by spy photographers, has been solved. As it turns out, the Jeep pictured is not a mule for the JT concept truck but rather a military vehicle. Explanation to follow.

"The Jeep you see here is one of the units built to sell (hopefully) to the Egyptian military. As you can see, the rear doors are welded shut and, on the inside load floor, there's a pickup-style steel bed. It's powered by a diesel, has rear leaf springs and a rear Dana 60. I understand that, while there are a number of these built, the deal hasn't been made yet with Egypt (or Israel, etc.). There are no plans to offer this in North America." Phil Howell, Off-Road Magazine
This would also explain the right-hand drive.

Spy photographers have spotted what appears to be a Jeep pickup truck, right along the lines of the Jeep JT truck concept. Based on the four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, the back doors have been welded shut and the black composite roof structure has been extended forward to the B-pillar. The rear glass is also a solid window rather than a roll-down.

The interior of the vehicle reveals what appears to be a truck bed. The bed extends to the fronts seat and doesn't allow for any rear seats. More details that suggested a pickup truck are new leaf-springs that have been added, to accommodate heavier payloads in the rear. The Jeep JT was designed to use much of the Wrangler Unlimited's platform to allow any easy transition from concept to production, and it looks as though this transformation is already underway. Also note the right-hand drive.

Bad news but that doesn't mean that the JT will no go into production in some form. I actually heard about the military idea awhile ago.

Well, I know that Jeep is also going to compete to replace the current Humvee for the US Military. If they get that contract you can bet this will be in showrooms as a civilian edition.

If Jeep does start getting military contracts again it might just pull Chrysler through this transition period.

Oh cack. I was really gunning for this to happen.

I hear Hummer is coming out with a pickup truck. It really would make sense for Jeep to follow suit.
